Re: 3 years is enough. My Open letter to Goodlife/Mississaug

Thankfully, DVP was open as of 6AM today. But I drove some friends up to the start line and the lane closures were already in effect on Lake Shore. With the Gardiner down to 2 lanes each way, drivers are going to be in quite the fit of states today. Add to that, the EB QEW has been completely close...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I can still take both boys out together in the chariot and they like it - they've been bugging me already as to when I'm going to start running them to school for the drop off. It's a LOT of work to push two 40lb wiggly boys in the chariot. They are quite happy to be pushed around though, which is n...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I took Alex out today for our first stroller run of the season and realized that it won't be long before he has outgrown the running stroller :( He is pretty cozy in there and quite happy, but if he gets any taller, his legs will hang over. He is very motivational though, which is nice. Everytime I ...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Thanks Kristi, reading stuff like that makes me feel way less terrified!! I was also a fan of Prats' "one of my childbirth experiences was fun" post. 8) Pregnancy sucked, but the recovery was good! You'll hear enough horror stories over the next few months, it's good to hear a few g...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Are you pg too Ann??? I'll be curious to know how long after a non-c-section birth it takes before you can run. If I have to have a section I can see 6 weeks for sure, maybe longer. Otherwise it sounds like it could be the same, or less, or even more if things are, well I'm not thinking about that,...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Alex is a champion napper. He actually asks to go for a nap and will just crawl right into bed and close his eyes. He'll even usually go to bed okay, its the night when he has trouble (and always has!). I'll look back on these days one day when I can't get them out of bed until noon. Even now, morni...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Ah sleep. One day we'll meet again, right? My 2 1/2 year old still rarely sleeps through the night. Everytime I make some noise about wanting a third, hubby reminds me that I haven't slept through the night in almost 3 years :) If you want more birth control I can message you when my third gets up ...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

But having a running stroller gives you the OPTION to go out with baby, even if it isn't your favourite thing. Bob all the way over here. It's been our only stroller and I love it. We used it for everything. (except for vacation, we did buy a $15 cheapo for that 'cause the bob took up too much room...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

We have the baby jogger which is great for running, but if I were to do it again, I would probably get the bob as it seems more versatile. My running stroller is only good for running - it doesn't fold down so it doesn't fit into the car nicely. It was a gift so I'm glad that I have it, but I would ...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Just signed up for the Mississauga 1/2 this morning! The boys have been sleeping really well lately and I've been making good use of the treadmill after bedtime and it's been feeling great. I'm very much looking forward to the nice weather so I can run outside comfortably. I'm mostly just trying to ...

Re: Christmas Baking 2012

I've made a whole bunch of sugar cookies, some cute little brownies with santa hats on them, homemade oreos with a peppermint buttercream filling and a few other things. I'm not eating any of it this year, but I'm still enjoying the baking. Timmy is really enjoying helping with the baking and even t...

I thought of this thread last night as one of the recipes on "Recipes to riches" was this one! I don't know if she won or not (I got bored and went to bed), I'm certain that it was the same recipe. You could have been rich Dr. S!

Vitamix Successes and Failures

Dee- that's exactly how I do it. It's easy and quick and doesn't waste any cauliflower compared to hand grating.

Re: Vitamix Successes and Failures

I love my Vitamix! I've made lots of smoothies, and have experimented with including some green stuff in there. I actually really like the soups from the vitamin because it's so easy - I've made a few versions of a broccoli cheese soup and learned that you really must steam the broccoli first. That ...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Some things get an explaination. Some things get a "because I said so". It depends on the situation and the mood. I explain that we have to sit in a carseat to "be safe". It turns into a "because I said so" if there is a fight. I am not going to bend or make it a game....

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Just to be more clear, here is an example of an alternative, condensed (the actual argument probably went on much longer): Me: John, it is time for bed John: No! Me: Do you want to walk up the stairs, or have a piggy-back? John: No walk! No piggy back! Me: Do you want to go upside down up the stair...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

here's my unsolicited advice on the power struggles (taken from my favourite book "Honey I Shrunk the Kids") - when you're in a power struggle with a kid, "drop the rope" - as in get yourself out of the struggle....if that means "letting him win", then, so be it. I don...

We are potty training here too and it's a lot of fun! Alex is a joker so I'll ask him where he goes pee and he'll yell "in the TOILET". Then proceed to walk around the house saying "no pee on the couch, no pee on the floor, no pee on the stairs, no pee on mommy, no pee on Timmy, etc&...

I'm with you guys on the eating thing. I don't expect that Timmy is gong to eat all of he lunch that I pack. I just put in a bunch of healthy stuff and trust that he won't starve himself. He is loving school. I picked him up from the bus stop this afternoon and he was so happy! He even loves he bus ...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

A very successful first day. He was pumped when I picked him up and wired for the rest of the night! I think that the combo of first day of school and all indoor recess is a bad one! I'm sure that the teachers will agree. I feel a lot better now as I'm pretty sure that he is going to adjust just fine!

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

How is everyone doing with back to school? My first baby starts school tomorrow. I thought that I was ready, but I'm not so sure. Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

{engmomma pokes head in} It is odd being at the whole other end of the spectrum in the game of child rearing. While you guys are having sleepless nights cause the darling just.won't.sleep. I now have sleepless nights worrying about how I screwed them up during the younger years. The trauma of paren...
