Arlene - your husband seems to have really bad luck with work, didnt he lose his job in the winter as well? Andrea - Despite the good fortune that we have in our lives, or maybe because of it, we are allowed the luxury of dwelling on the small things. :? No. My husband has worked at the same place ...

<hijack>Andrea, just for a little perspective... A week ago (July 3rd) the company that my husband worked for closed. No severance, no pension, no nothing. Three days later my husband's 82 year old mom was rushed to the hospital with a ruptured bowel. The doctor's couldn't save her and she passed aw...

Andrea - I'm sad that you're sad. But you know, and I know, (and many others know), running is tough. Some days are MUCH tougher than others, and it has nothing to do with our speed (or lack thereof). Some of the hardest days are when we are struggling and doing our best, but end up being slow...

Who the heck would start running in their 50's?? That's just silly ... you'll wreck your knees. Just kidding... that's what I was told three years ago when I started running at the age of 54. The doubters were wrong. You have an exciting road ahead. Enjoy the journey... and welcome. :D

The heels are the worst place for pain for me, so no. Even things like chair pose were causing problems. But even when I put pressure on the front of the foot, it causes problems because everything over-stretches and then tightens up. As for three-legged downward dogs and planks-- um, I don't think...

Emma, I always added a note to each run I logged. It does make it fun to look back. This was from my 5th "run"... Date: 7/13/2006 8:00 AM OMG - it's HOT and sooooo steamy, soupy, muggy. After all that rain we had yesterday, torrential at times, we woke this morning at sunrise to dense fog. By 8:00 A...

Wow, thanks Brian. What a great post. "Check your ego at the door"... very apropos with yoga. I started practicing yoga in the ‘60s because it was the hip(py) thing to do back then. I've been an "on and off" practitioner even since. Lately I've been a lot more consistant and it HAS helped me physica...

Peachbud was pretty flat. I was a bit freaked out by the elevation profile online, but I didn't notice any hills. SL is actually only downhill for the first half (the half I ran really fast), with a couple minor inclines in the first half- it's pretty flat for the last 5K. It's still really fast an...

Doug - I'm sorry to read how hard the race affected you (mentally & physically). I know this won't help, but I'd be doing virtual back flips if I ran 10k in 1:03:12. That's faster than my 5k race pace. :D You said, "Why waste my time and money if I cannot compete?" I struggle with that sometimes...

From my journal, 3 years ago today...

July 1, 2006 Beautiful morning, not too hot (18°C), fresh breeze blowing. I went for my usual 3 mile walk, but in the middle I incorporated some intervals of jogging. OMG! It's hard!!! I could only run for about 30-40 seconds at at time, and then I'd have to walk for a couple of minutes to catch my...
