Re: Ahhhh Thursday

I'm hobbling today. :( My run started off great last night (minimal Achilles pain, getting better as it warmed up), but about 30 minutes in the pain came back and started to get worse. By the end (53 minutes) I was in rough shape. I was limping on the walk to the pub, and I'm limping today, too. Wh...

It's also important to remember that the path towards the qualifying time is sometimes neither straight nor predictable based on past results from any distances, because there are good days and there are bad days; sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the fly, for no apparent reason.....

Re: How much is mental?

All of the above. One technical question, though... Is it my lack of belief in myself that keeps me at the back? I question this theory because I've trained the last two years using HR and time. How did you determine your HRmax? Maybe you're underestimating it, and therefore not pushing yourself as ...

On an unrelated note I did hear from several sources that there were police officers dealing with runners "going" in the woods at the start. Even threatening disqualifying them, writing down bib numbers. I did not see it personally. I did! It was a riot... this young cop chased down a young female ...

Great to run a bit with ya, buddy! You kept me honest for the last few kms, when my mind was in danger of wandering - and just for the record, I actually meant to let YOU win by 0.2 sec, just to give you a false sense of security... 8) :D

Denis (or should I say dgrant1111?) have you decided if you are racing it, just 3 weeks before Boston? Yeah, gotta love the ATB number I pulled! 8) :D I'm prolly gonna see how it feels on the day - I have no illusions about breaking any land speed records in Boston, and I've always been more intent...

I personally find treadmill running slightly harder than outside running at equivalent paces, rather than easier. Whenever I go outside for a run after an extended period of TM training, it feels like a breeze and my times/paces are faster for the same perceived exertion. I'm also one of those folks...

I don't recommend it as a training strategy but I have heard of runners and cyclists who have intentionally bonked to get a feel for how it feels and how to recover afterwards. I've done that on a few occasions with hitting the wall. I've heard that complete glycogen depletion helps the body to ada...

I call it hitting the wall when I run low on total body glycogen stores - both muscle and liver - before the end of a really long race, and have to walk/trudge it in. I call it bonking when I exceed my lactate threshold pace for too long at any point in a race and end up having to slow down to recov...

I have tinkered with the idea of just running the marathons, no watch - just running to finish hey midge - there can be a big difference between running a race without a watch, and just running to finish... you can still run your hardest without checking the timer, as long as you get in tune with, ...

You must work right across the road from me! Barbara's first route is my standard 10k (when I start from where I live), except I like to go one more block up and across Heath instead of St. Clair - it's less busy, and more shaded... You might also want to consider getting an Athletics Centre members...

I did a 16k run 7 days before my last Full, that ended up (by accident!) being about 15 sec/km faster than my Full goal pace - and I was fine on race day. The confidence boost was huge, and I think that kind of psychological edge for race day shouldn't be underestimated.
