Injury Poll - since January 1, 2012

I can't see the poll because I'm on Tapatalk. Severe plantar fasciitis in my left foot (since April). I'm not so hung up on missing running right now since I've embraced cycling so well that it's taken over. If this poll is being used to track injuries while running, I would have to clarify that I ...

Lance steps down from Livestrong, dropped by Nike

Why don't you ask people who have had cancer? A few of us did in the other thread (including myself who spoke on behalf of my father who got great support from Livestrong as well before he died) and the response was exactly what you'd expect. Don't get me wrong - I have a ton of respect for what th...

Lance steps down from Livestrong, dropped by Nike

Why don't you ask people who have had cancer? Livestrong helped me two years ago when I was diagnosed with a rare cancer. Other typical websites gave me a one or two page summary. Livestrong gave me the most information, plus I got to talk to someone (with a similar form of cancer) through e-mail fo...

An hour on the bike. It was too hot out to go any longer. No run as I'm resting the foot today.

Another 1 hour bike & 30 min run afterward. Very hot but bearable. Absolutely no foot pain from yesterday or today!

How do you stick to your healthy eating habits?

I agree 100% with everything CinC said, and, like her, I belong to the 100 lbs lost club, just from food tracking and exercise. I also use Livestrong to track my food intake. If you don't want to get into that all the time, try it for a month just to track your intake and portions. It might make you...

Who is the blind one?

I don't know much about the whole situation, but a couple thoughts: 1: The Canal path is a multi-use path, filled with families, cyclists, etc., especially in this area. People should be respecting this fact and be running single file or taking up one lane when running. (the RR run groups should be ...

Anyone in Ottawa know what other run clubs are downtown? I was telling someone about run club groups (she wants to run with other people to keep motivated during the winter) and she doesn't want to run 10:1s and didn't like the RR "atmosphere." I told her there was another RR at Slater, b...

Oh my aching body! Runners with physical jobs??

The secret is to wear appropriate footwear for your job (and NOT running shoes). I would suggest looking into shoes we nurses wear or chef shoes. They are constructed for long, physical hours on your feet that properly support your feet, legs and back and you can get them with foot protection and no...

How Will You Contribute To The Running Community In 2012?

I really enjoy volunteering at the Run for Reach with The RM water station as it is an organization that has helped me out in the past. I also really enjoy inspiring, encouraging and mentoring a lot of new runners at my workplace and will continue to do so in the new year.
