You have a great attitude and continue to inspire.

Is the infection still there or has that been killed off?

I'm not sure yet, hoping it is and that it won't come back though.

Re: An update on Rick Ball - he's having a tough time

Thanks for posting this update Doug. I just want to thank everybody from running mania and I appreciate all of those good vibes. Runners are such great people. It is hard to find a positive sometimes but the accident could have been so much worse or I could have died. I went through some really frus...

Thanks soooo much for your kind words of support everyone....you fellow maniacs are AWESOME!!! My bike I am told is toast. It was a nice carbon fibre made by giant. The elbow joint is one of the most difficult to rehab I am told, it is going to take many months and I may never get full range of moti...

Re: STWM: A bit of a race report -- Dylan Wykes

Wow, aren't those awesome blogs? Feel the focus and the effort along with the feeling of respect, friendship and fun. Wonder if that break cost Reid, the Canadian record and $32k. At slower speeds, I would say it won't as what every is lost in the break can be made up by the break it would give you...

Re: Race pace strategy

On a well paced marathon I spend most of the first half wondering if I wasn't being TOO conservative, somewhere around 28k I start thinking maybe not. At 32k it feels "right" (thank God I didn't pick it up!) and by 36k I wonder if I'll be able to hold it, but I resolve to hang on as long ...

Can weight training help endurance athletes last longer?

For all of those master runners out there (including myself :) ) that are looking to compete against younger runners pay special attention to this new study regarding weight training. The bottom line is this: " Three weeks of strength training made little difference to the efficiency of the you...

I feel I had a good race last night. I ran 58.70 for the 400m and after hitting the 58 second bench mark for the second time now I am ready to take it into the 57 next time.

Re: Ed Does it Again ...

I agree with everybody, Ed is amazing. I use distance runner Ed Whitlock who is in his 70's and sprinter Earl Fee who is in his 80's, both who have numerous world records as examples that your age isn't a disability or excuse not to reach your goals. These guys are a huge inspiration for me when peo...

breaking the minute mark at the Ontario Masters

After switching over from the marathon to the 400m sprint distance I finally achieved another personal goal of mine by breaking the minute barrier. Check out my race report at the link below. http://rickballruns.wordpress.com/2011/06/09/sub-3-hr-marathon-may-2010-sub-1-min-400m-june-2011/" onclick="...

Re: Army Run

The army run is one of my favourite races too as I feel it was my best running performance to date. I hope to be there again this year to run the 5k with the soldiers from the Soldiers ON program. I think it is a great way for the public to show their support for the forces.

Air Force Run - Half Marathon, 10k, 5k.

I know that a lot of you are running Ottawa this weekend and I wish you good luck but if there is any runners in the Winnipeg area you might want to consider running the Air Force Run. Dazed and infused with the runner's high

Check out this article about the runners high, it's a better read at the link with a good picture of Simon Bairu. Speaking of Simon, I had the privilege of running in the same race as Simon at the Canadian National Track and Field Championships in Toronto last year in the 10,000 m race. It was real...

Re: How long before interval training translates into results??

Rick- Doesn't that contradict what Ian said about 5k pace being the proper stimulus? Of course your 5k pace can improve but 15-20 sec faster sounds like a lot. If someone can actually get through 5x1K at this faster pace, it will still target VO2max (by virtue of spending a lot of time near the max...
