Re: Ironman messes with everything
I look at the pro changes in a different light. While many think it does not affect them in the age group environment it will affect the races. I understand I am in the minority but I have no interest in Muskoka because there will be no pro field there. But, the bigger impact will be on the race org...

Re: Surviving Indoor Trainer H-E-double-hockeystick
Don't need a power meter for Trainer Road. No you don't. But having tried TR with both power meter and with a fluid trainer the virtualized power does not have great accuracy. In the end it doesn't really matter as it is effort and the number is meaningless unless you are stuck on a particular numb...

Re: Surviving Indoor Trainer H-E-double-hockeystick
I have a few of the Sufferfest videos - I get bored with the same scenery after doing them a couple of times. There is a group of us that do the Tour of Sufferlandria in my garage. Trainer Road is great - no question. I just have a distaste for power meters - tried it and did not like it. I would ra...

A friend of mine has been developing this platform. I have a hand in designing the Endurance/Brick workouts.
I will run the program and watch a visual (movie or youtube of old races) while I try to spin.
It is currently free in beta mode to try out.

Re: Bike stolen at the "The Canadian" in Ottawa
After a couple of meetings we are anticipating setting up a system where we video tape the only two possible entrances and exits to our transition area. Because we all know that thieves won't go to the effort of lifting a featherweight bike over a fence if they want to steal it. Let me know your id...

Re: Bike stolen at the "The Canadian" in Ottawa
Rob, talk to John Salt @MSC. They implemented (and quickly) a bracelet system for the last couple of races after The Canadian issue. I worked security the Sunday morning of the Olympic in Lakeside, and it went pretty smoothly. Fencing changes are also a consideration, they put in a 6ft fence at Was...

Re: Bike stolen at the "The Canadian" in Ottawa
Two bikes stolen at the Lifetime Fitness Tempe Arizona triathlon on the weekend. Is this a trend? I looked into our insurance coverage and we cannot find an insurance company willing to cover us for bike theft at an increased premium or rider. After a couple of meetings we are anticipating setting u...

Re: Bike stolen at the "The Canadian" in Ottawa
So when people ask, "Why should I join OAT (or my provincial triathlon governing body)?" or "Why should I care whether it's a sanctioned event, as it only increases my race fee?" then you have your answer! Sorry for being late to the party... Just to clarify that this stolen bik...

Re: Junior/U23/Elite Draft Legal ''Triathlon'' Provincials
Congrats on your race! I too am curious as to why the swim was cancelled. Last year the swim was cancelled at K-Town (the only time in the 30 years of this race)...and as a volunteer I was relieved. The lake was incredibly "angry" last year with large swells and gusting winds making it un...

Re: Pool triathlon- what to wear?
Tip. If you transition from the pool to bikes is lengthy at all and you will be putting a shirt on then use a full zip bike jersey and you can put it on while running. If you use bike shoes put your socks on before the run when your feet have dried a little on the bike.

Mont Tremblant Home To 2014 703. World Champs
There is a press conference today at 3pm but the story is already out in the Triathlon media. Mont Tremblant will retain their June 70.3 date and August IM date. An additional date for 2014 only will be for the WC on September 8th. There is also a possibility that the triathlon Mont Tremblant (Olymp...

Re: Gran Fondo Questions
If memory serves me correctly, last year's Ottawa GrandoFondo may not have been an official Grand Fondo event, but rather an independent operation ... This year, apparently, there are two Grand Fondo events in Ottawa, one, Grand Fondo Ottawa, same as the one last yera, in August (??) and, there is ...

Re: Gran Fondo Questions
I did the inaugural GF in Ottawa last year and in my experience it failed miserably. Supposedly many have stepped forward to help the race director out to have a better experience this year but I won't be back - not for that kind of money for a supported training ride. Some of the lowlights of my ex...

Re: Buying a Bike - part deus...
I would be interested to know what kind of "mechanical advantage" a road bike has over a tri bike. The only difference is seat angles and seat to handlebar drop (usually). I feel I climb better on my slacker seat angle road bike than my steep tri bike. But is that mechanical? or functional?

Re: Boston Marathon 2013
I don't know who I am more disgusted with - the people from the race just giving the jackets away or the people who thought it was okay to use the misfortune of others to grab an iconic symbol of the marathon. http://gawker.com/5994756/looting-tragedy-profiteering-reported-in-aftermath-of-boston-ma...

I would be interested to know what kind of "mechanical advantage" a road bike has over a tri bike. Better braking? for sure but that does not get you up a hill faster. Both have have the same/similar hubs/gears/chains/cogs. Borrow a road bike and try a route you normally do. They are two d...

Re: Report: Lance considering confession
I'm still puzzled about the reluctance to talk about what happened in the hospital room. After all the other admissions he made, why not admit to that, too? The only thing I can think of is that he is trying to protect himself from counter-suits or something. He was very reluctant to talk about any...

Re: Training Advice for Ironman Distance
I heard back from the Triathlon Canada Technical Delegate: Snorkels are not allowed. I believe we will find some wording to this effect in the next round of ITU rules that are due out soon. Triathlon Canada follows ITU rules (our rule book mirrors the ITU rule book): http://triathloncanada.com/rtec...

Re: Report: Lance considering confession
Predictions: - We'll get more insight into the confessed dopers that testified against him - he'll out them for more than they admitted to - He'll make half-hearted comments about feeling bad about some of the people he's harmed, but then will attack them again anyway. Specifically Betsy, Tyler and...

Re: Training Advice for Ironman Distance
Did you guys know in Clermont you are allowed to use a snorkel on the swim. You are allowed to use a snorkel within USAT rules and Triathlon Canada rules. When I did Ironman Florida there were two people that I saw who had snorkels. I thought they were cheating until I looked it up. But, unless you...

Does anyone have thoughts on Epic/Iron Dartmouth as a race for a first timer? All the reviews I've read of the first year are positive. +1. I forgot about Epic Dartmouth. Very good reviews from a small field and a very hot day in the first year. Registration is already ahead of last year's event to...

Re: First Ironman
What about IMTB and Lakeplacid that sell out, do you think it would go to online registration. I am a little fuzzy on those details? Lake Placid sold out in 18 hours this year. Mont Tremblant took 4-6 weeks to sell out. Both can be registered for online. After a peak of having to be onsite, Lake Pl...
