Re: Thanksgiving Monday!

Just thought I'd toot my own horn a little bit. I finally ran under 20 minutes (19:55) in a 5K today at the Oktoberfest 5K in Kitchener-Waterloo. It was so intense, and over so very fast, but I loved it! Then I went to Guelph and ran the mile with my ten year old son and 100 m with my five year old ...

Re: EndurRun

Tim I'm strongly leaning towards Haliburton though I know it's a tough course. Maybe 50 at Sulphur in prep.... still undecided though but definitely want to tackle it in 2015 while I'm 50, for all kinds of reasons :) See you back at Sulphur? (Oh and love your signature highlighting your year of PB'...

Re: EndurRun

Awesome...maybe I'll join you in 2016 for the Ultimate... Will definitely see you on the trails I'm sure :) Will you be doing the Ultimate in 2015, Robin? I think it is at least 50/50 I register before the price increase tonight. No I think I'll wait at least until 2016. I'm wanting to do my first ...

ENDURrun Stage 1: Half Marathon

Set a new PB under 1:40, which is about 2 minutes faster than my time for this race last year. I felt really good, albeit a bit strained in my left hamstring. Tomorrow is a short 15 km time trial. :-)

Re: EndurRun

Great run today! It was nice to meet Dave today, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the week.

It looks like a bigger potluck barbecue is being organized for Friday, pretty close to our house, so it might be better to meet up there.

Re: EndurRun

By the way, we live in Waterloo (less than 2 km from Laurier if you're staying there), and we have a big backyard and a charcoal barbecue. So please feel free to drop by, hang around, whatever. I can cook some burgers, steaks, or smoke some ribs if there's interest. I'll be looking for an excuse to ...

Re: EndurRun

Awesome...I'm there Friday and Saturday night! Looks like Stage 7 will be 10% Marathon Maniac participants so consider wearing the ugly yellow Sunday and we'll get a cheesy picture for their newsletter...unless that sounds creepy. I chatted with Jack Lee after the race last year but was not a membe...

Re: Amster-dam good Saturrday

50 miles of beautiful trail running at Sulphur Springs today. Finish time was 10:12:xx, and I have to say I'm very happy about it! Pretty sure I'm going to lose a toenail, and I have a big blister on my right foot. I may put together a race report later, but I'm thinking about heading to bed early t...

Re: Sulphur Springs 2014

Yeah, I'm hoping to learn a lot from the experience. I'm not counting the backpack out of the running yet, especially if the temperature climbs up towards 30 degrees. If it's too much of a pain, I can switch to something lighter.

Not trying to sell myself short on anything. More trying to avoid carrying more than I need. There's a balance somewhere in the middle.

Re: Sulphur Springs 2014

I can't find my usual handheld since I didn't need it all winter. I've got a smaller 10oz one that I can use though. Although it might need to be refilled, a smaller handheld might be nicer to carry anyway.

Re: Sulphur Springs 2014

Thanks for the replies. I'm not trying to be a hero. Really, I haven't done this run before, so I was just looking for some advice from those who have. I've been training with a backpack, but my shoulders would love to carry a bit less weight.

Re: Sulphur Springs 2014

Now that it's less than three weeks away, I am starting to get a bit nervous. Do you guys take water with you on the course? The guide book says "all runners are advised to carry fluid and food", but I don't understand why I should water around for 50 miles if the longest distance between ...

Re: Sulphur Springs 2014

I am interested in Sulphur Springs, but I'm a bit stuck on how to get there. A 6 am start isn't very great for taking family, and it's a long enough run that I don't know if I would be able to drive myself home afterwards. What do you guys do?

Sorry I didn't get to meet you guys. I arrived just in the nick of time for the start, about 15 minutes before the gun, and had a family to meet up with afterwards. It was an awesome day, and I shouldn't have second-guessed my wardrobe choice. I doubled up my shirts, when a single layer would have s...
