Sticky request
Can we make this thread a sticky please? I think I've had to search for it at least 5 times because it's a great inspiration for new members. http://www.runningmania.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?t=11802 We also had some discussion in this thread about having a thread that is just for before and after pi...

Kerry, this is your personal experience and yes, it does seem harder than everyone else's because it's yours and yes you worked very hard. But you also don't need to take away from others. It's not to take away from you. There's just so much perspective from sharing. And still lots to celebrate. Yo...

I agree. There are lots of marathons to pick from. If you have a nutrition mistake, you can easily use your current fitness level and sign up for another one in a couple of weeks. For Ironman you usually have to go out there and sign up a year in advance. After my dnf the only option was IM Western...

The feeling of success when I hit it is far more fleeting than the damage of failure. Really? I'm sorry to read that. I cried at the race, and was down for a couple of days after my marathon DNF, but I still smile when I think of my 1:45 half marathon last spring. Me too. I walked the second half o...

For me, I think its about street cred. and respect from peers, I don't know how good I have to be before I feel secure in my abilities, but I'll keep trying until I feel it. I cried for weeks after IM (and still get teary talking about my failure) which was a massive wake up call for me. Life is ju...

I do wonder about people who are really competitive though. I've seen people that hit a goal and are happy for about 30 seconds before they're setting the bar even higher. I read posts and logs from people that seem miserable because they put so much pressure on themselves to preform (Ironboy - you...

I'm doing ok - doing well on the "eat more veggies" front, really badly on the "drink less diet coke" front. Sometimes it's just hard to resist. Can you make a deal with yourself? I found I was drinking too much tea so I had a deal that I had to finish a water bottle amount of water before I could ...

Not a good week. At all. 7 Jan - 194.1 14 Jan - 192.3 21 Jan -192.0 -2.1 We'll see what the Swimming/ Running combo does. Swimming makes you REALLY hungry so it may be tough to see any weight loss result from this. It's great overall exercise but the calories burned tend to be negated by the fact t...

I have a question for those who are outcome focused. If you are so focused on your time, won;t you always be disappointed? Unless you win the race, won't you feel that someone beat you? Perhaps you could do better? Does going out there and trying your best give you a sense of satisfaction? Satisfac...

If I throttle down my effort then I would expect to see little or no improvement, and maybe I can enjoy my mediocrity. We'll see what time brings. We all are, in essence, mediocre (yes, even you ET). Why not enjoy it regardless of effort? Because I want to see what I'm capable of. Once I hit my lim...

In an earlier post I talked about how some of us will be happier (for lack of a better word) with a "failure" so long as the journey was worthwhile; whereas others will prioritize the achievement of the goal over the process. As a result, telling a results-oriented person who failed to reach their ...

CinC wrote:Terri wasn't the only one who took offense with your statements last week Kerry.
She was the one that stated that she took offense so I named her because naming anyone else would have been an assumption. If you want to take it offline, feel free - we don't need to discuss it in this thread.

Thanks Kerry. My views on pads/pb are from Brett Sutton. I saw him speak in person in 2004, and follow his training methods closely, as they heavily influenced my coaches methods. Before coaching multiple olympic/world champions in swimming and triathlon he coached everything from kids to adults, t...

I just don't understand why the result or the accomplishment would negate the journey or impact the journey at all. Maybe I don't have the right personality for this sport. The one term I hear(d) over and over as that it takes sacrifice to do IM. Personally, I agree with that statement. I sacrficed...

You totally agree... but why? Please outline your experience with swim coaching. I totally agree with this part: Non-Essential · Pull Bouy: useful for strength building sets. However, can also hide body position flaws and can become a crutch. Do no more than 25% of a workout pulling and pay close a...

Got up and onto my basement treadmill this morning for 30 minutes easy. At they gym I never bothered with my HR because I often found that the machines were receiving too much interference. But, my machine is Polar enabled and it came with HR strap. So, today, I set out for a zone 1 run. Well, let'...
