Re: Kenyans looking for hosts for Vancouver Marathon

Found a place for them! On a related note, if you're at a race or race expo, and you see any of the African elites hanging around, go say hi. I've met a bunch of Kenyan guys, and they are always super happy to chat and make a friend. I think our Canadian nature is to leave people alone and let them...

Re: Run in recovery from alcohol or drug abuse?

If I recall, in Ottawa, back in 2008 or so, Phil Marsh from Running Room led a group of residents at the Ottawa Mission House to kickstart a running program for recovering addicts, etc .. I believe that at least 8 of the participants completed the marathon? Not sure if the program is still continui...

Re: Why are rich people drawn to endurance sports?

I would actually dispute that running is expensive, at least compared to other sports. What are the basic requirements? A pair of shoes, a t-shirt, some shorts? Say $150 to $200? What's golf cost? You have clubs, shoes, clothes, balls, green fees, etc. Tennis? Shoes, racquet, balls, etc. Hockey? Eq...

You recall wrong. I don't run to BQ, there are other interesting/adventurous/challenging races out there . I've done Boston twice in the past, and don't feel the need to keep going back there. I'm NOT American, don't live there or have family there. Like I said, I always finish strong regardless an...

+100 They can expect the Juggernaut train spring run right into they daisy chain. My finishes are always a sprint from 100m out, and I finish strong. The daisy chain ladies... I mean, as long as they only joined hands in the last 4 or 5 strides before the finish line, who are they bothering? It's p...

No you didn't steal..but you could have done the right thing i.e. return the item. Imagine if everybody did that eh..just saying. As far as the thief part, if you've overstayed a downtown parking meter by 20 minutes, you've stolen way, way more than this guy did. The other day I got home from the g...

...are women asking for female only races, or is it an assumption / ploy on the part of the organizers? I get demand-supply aspect, how low self-esteem might drive some to only run in those races. I mean this is apparent when it comes to gyms e.g. good life fitness v gym that caters to plus size cl...

Ottawa / Kanata area has several outlets nowadays that I frequent regularly and have found great deals up to 50-75% off ... And, yes mainstream brands of Asics, Saucony, NB, Mizuno, Nike, etc ... Outlets in terms of actual stores that have an online presence but using these as a brick and morter loc...

I bought an instant pot on Black Friday and still haven't used it! I need to take some time to sit and figure it out, and I just haven't. The pull buoy is great for getting the body rotation down. To practice breathing, I used a kick board and just kicked with my face in the water and breathing side to side (arms straight out with the board). It helps you simplify things and concentrate on your breathing (and helps conserve some ener...

I thought you said they were $225 at RR? Oh, I was assuming earlier in the week/month that it would be, based on last couple of years ... actually got the weekly email and it is also $199.99, which leads me to figure that it is a Garmin Sale and not a retail thing ... I was actually going up date t...

Don't be surprised to see if your local RR Black Friday email sales comes out on Tuesday/Wednesday offers a similar discount? But, based on past experience, probably will be around the $225 range? And, they will not match online sales ?? I suspect that this is an across the board sale from Garmin d...
