Re: Kingston Self-Transcendence 6-Hour Race, 2014

By the way, it is a loop in the sense that it is a closed circuit. But its not an oval. The track is more or less inside then outside of a U-shape. Not as boring as might be expected. The scenery does change. The counters do encourage the runners, even if you don't have a crew you're not alone. I mi...

Re: New North American 100 Mile Record!

It was amazing to see. His report is pretty interesting. Since I saw him all the way, I could see his gait change just a little later on, but obviously the speed never changed. He sure made it seem effortless, but we knew that kind of performance could not be done without pain and determination. It ...

The Mickelson Trail in south Dakota is where they run the Lean Horse ultra. Nice rail trail, nice district in the Black Hills.

Any suggestions for running off-road around Regina?
I'll be working around here for a while.

Re: Lean Horse Ultra 50 and 100 miles

wow thats a real disappointment. seems so simple to give you a bib and take your money. it wasn't like a big city race with thousands of people. its not that simple to a race director to have people showing up out of the blue, I guess. Looks like you'll still get quite a bit of racing this year tho....

Re: Beast of Burden 100 Miler

That passing out part is one of the main reasons I didn't try 100 at Lean Horse. I'd been having some low-blood-pressure symptoms during training, and my wife was worried sick that I'd end up alone in hospital in South Dakota, which would be a real mess. But 50 miles seemed ok with her, since I'd do...

Lean Horse Ultra 50 and 100 miles

A few days ago I did a long run in South Dakota. Here's a link to some pictures I took; sorry about the fingerprints on the lense sometimes. https://picasaweb.google.com/ronfranciscanada/2011LeanHorse50miler#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It was supposed to be my first 100 mile run,...

Kingston 6 hour

Had a good run yesterday in Kingston down by the lake. 51km in 6 hours. Started out just jogging naturally. I didn't know the loop distance, (a little less than a kilometre), and don't have any technology. Around 2 hours, my counter told me I had 19 km, which was pretty fair, and from then on she sw...

Running in the Badlands

Well one of my goals for this western trip was to go running in the badlands around Drumheller. Its not a race thing, but I wanted to go there, and to go running around. So on the Thanksgiving weekend, I had several days off, and drove down from Fort Mac. Had a great time, and finally got the pictur...

Saskatoon 50km

Its a couple of weeks ago, but it took me time to get up the pictures. Anyway, I was working up in Fort MacMurray, and I had 4 days off, so I checked the online race schedules for something to do. Nothing in Edmonton or Calgary that called to me, but a 50k in Saskatoon seemed marginally doable. Frid...

Well I haven't posted on this board in quite a while, but I did just post a race report to another place, so its easy enough to paste it here: Last weekend I stayed in Toronto, and went up near Alliston to the Dirty Girls Run. http://dirtygirlsrun.com/dirty_girls_run/index.html" onclick="window.open...

No sign of them, of course. They just don't hang around the side of the road waiting for a snack to come jogging by. I hope. But its grizzly country, thats for sure. Big, wild, rough, and densely vegetated. Wild animals can live in these mountains with very little impact from people.

Ahhhhhhhh! so is there even more I should know about this Naproxen stuff. No wonder everyone is so familiar with the stuff. I may be old, but don't leave me out.

pretty interesting responses. Doonst convinced me. Ok seriously, I may try one to see if it would help as a last-resort-before-dropping-pill. Though I have always felt that Helen Malmbert's advice to sit at an aid station for half an hour should be your last resort before dropping out. Lately I've b...

Well I'm grateful for a good breakfast at the local diner. They do it better in the states than Canada. I'm grateful to be staying here another day, just relaxing. I really, really don't feel like an 11-hour drive. As in, really. I'm grateful to feel better than when I woke up this morning and felt ...

Congratulations to all those who were there. The lead-up to the race was also fun from the sidelines. There was all this talk about bears, and I thought I'd post this little paragraph from the advert for another race in Montana: "2009 GRIZZLY MARATHON (posted 7/15): The Grizzly Marathon will be...

There will be coffee at the cookhouse at Base Camp before the race start. Also muffins, bagels, toast, I think, for the runners.
After the race, a club sandwich and fries from the cookhouse goes down real, real good.
Dammit, I wish I was going to be there.
