Re: Opinions Please....

I've only run Toronto but I will say I found it a very fast course. The hill that everyone talks about wasn't much of a hill and it seemed like we were going downhill almost the whole race. Queen's park was technically uphill but it is such a gentle incline that I barely noticed that it wasn't flat....

Re: NY Marathon cancelled

I think the whole situation was handled poorly. Personally I've never run a marathon (only 1/2s) but if I did I don't think I'd ever run something like NYC because of the cost. So, I totally understand when people spent this much that they are upset when it was cancelled in such a poor manner. The p...

Re: Run Off the Grid

Hi Everyone, I just got back from volunteering for Run Off the Grid this weekend. I would much preferred to have run it but as a first time volunteer it was a great experience. It was really interesting to watch the front runners in the 25, 37.5 and 50 k races. We were at aid station 1/4 so we saw e...

Re: Run Off the Grid

Wondering if anyone is going to this race this year? I am still injured so it looks like I will be volunteering this year instead. It was my absolute favorite race last year - not just the race but the whole weekend. Hope to see some maniacs there this year!

Hi JWolf,

Your point about babying is certainly valid.

Thanks again for the info/feedback.

Re: Has anyone used Run Less Run Faster?

Hi JWolf, I can walk fine without issue it is the running that is causing the issues? I do understand your point though about not ramping it up too quickly. I would not say that typically I am injury prone. I've ran on and off since the age of 7 or 8 and this is my first running related injury - it ...

Re: Has anyone used Run Less Run Faster?

Hi JWolf, Thank you for the info. I am definately being cautious. Their first program is 10 min walk, 1 min run/2 min walk x 4, 10 min walk. This is working so far...I tried doing 1 min run, 1 min walk for about 15 min and that did not work but yes I'd definately like to see what you used. As for sp...

Re: Cross training at sub 3 hour marathon

Hi Ironboy, I picked it up this weekend, mostly out of desperation. I've been out of running since last Nov due to an overuse injury in my hip flexor area. I started running again very gently (1 min on/ 1 off for 2.5 k loops) and not only did the hip flexor start to flare up but so did a knee injury...

Hi Ironboy,

This is probably 'old news' to you as you have been around much longer than I but the book Run Less, Run Faster makes a compelling argument.

Has anyone used Run Less Run Faster?

Hi, I am considering starting with the beginner 5 k program and going from there. Last year I overdid it and developed a hip flexor issue. I have seen physio, ART and sports doc. I was told to start gentle and as soon as I did the pain came back and an old knee injury flared up, so I am thinking may...

For anyone considering the 205 - Amazon Canada still has them - although they are charging more for the 205 than I got the 305 for a year ago!

Re: Alterna Ultimate Run for Men's Cancers - Sunday, June 17

I did this race last year. I live 2 hours from Ottawa. They did not have women's shirts last year. I drove down the first night and they were already out of small shirts. Trail races and smaller races seem to give you what you ordered but it seems commoni n Ottawa to do this first come, first serve ...

Ottawa Podiatrist/Chiropodist?

Hi Everyone, Just looking for some suggestions. As some of you know I have been having trouble with my hip. I did ART with some success. I took a significant amount of time off which had no impact. I have been in physio for awhile which has helped but it still hasn't got better. My physio suggested ...

Re: Stress Fractures and Hips - Questions - HELP!

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the feedback. I'm more at the far end of the Valley (Pembroke/Petawawa area) but not connected to the military (so no military docs for me) so I am going to see what PSI says as Kanata is a pretty straight 1 1/2 shot up the highway but Abridd I may PM you if that doesn't work...

Re: Stress Fractures and Hips - Questions - HELP!

Hi JWolf, I agree it probably isn't a stress fracture. Unfortunately I've already been off it for 5 months and it still bugs me (the only way to be on it less would be to actually go on crutches - I did literally nothing for months to try to let it heal - from Nov-Feb I did NOTHING - no running, no ...

Re: Stress Fractures and Hips - Questions - HELP!

Hi, My chiro did not recommend an x-ray but she did say when she thought we weren't making progress and I should try something else. Irongirl, I can run but it causes pain and it isn't like deadly I'm going to die pain but I'm worried that even after using ART and taking 5 months off it still hurts ...

Thanks.

Re: Stress Fractures and Hips - Questions - HELP!

Hi JWolf, Thank you for the feedback. The problem is I can't see my doctor until July - hence the recommendation to see a sports doc - so I'm hoping someone in the Ottawa/Ottawa Valley area will have a recommendation for who I could see. As for chiro/physio - I have been seeing a chiro who does ART....

Re: Stress Fractures and Hips - Questions - HELP!

Hi Everyone, I'm in Ontario (the Ottawa Valley). There is such a waiting list for doctors I just don't kwow how I'd even find a MD that specializes in Sports Medicine, let alone one without a waiting list? How would I go about finding one? And yes, while I think it is unlikely that it is a stress fr...

Stress Fractures and Hips - Questions - HELP!

Hi Everyone, I haven't been running in about 5 months because of an ongoing pain in the front of my thigh. It has moved around a bit (from closer to my pelvis out). When it started it you drew a V from my hip bones to my pubic bone it fell along that line. It now feels like it is in the front of the...

Re: Toronto Goodlife - course changes?

Hi, This race was my first 1/2 and I loved it. Being from out of town (and a small town) I can say that this type of change would really upset me if I was going. While dealing with shuttles and transit might not be a big deal to those of you used to the big city had this change happened last year it...

Re: While letting hip flexors heal......

I've been skiing...my hip flexors in my right leg have been a problem for about 3 months and I've seem improvement but apparently not in the running dept! I tried to run the resolution run (very slowly) and it didn't go well :( Skiing seems to be not too bad though because it involves no up and down.

Re: Moving from 25 K to 50 K

Hi Everyone, Thank you for the info. Right now I'm not really running at all because of my hip flexor (I ran the 25 K Fat Ass at Batawa this weekend with no issues but hadn't run for a month prior to that). In the spring/summer I was running probably close to the start of the RFTT training plan. In ...

Moving from 25 K to 50 K

Hi Everyone, I do realize there are several topics on this but I have a few circumstances I want to make sure I consider so I thought I'd ask for input. Here is my situation: I have run on and off for most of my life. I ran my first 1/2 marathon in May 2011. Over the summer/fall I ran a number of 1/...
