Re: Altra Shoe Warning
After one year and a half I am still transitionning... I can now run with minimalist shoes for my intervals and long runs, up to 20K - but it took many months and many mistakes to get to this point...along the way, I developped 2 or 3 injuries (nothing major, but I had to back off and in one case st...

Re: Mtl Oasis RnR Registration Opens
Hello everyone Just a little note about the Montreal Rock & Roll marathon (and half marathon) I got to run the half marathon with my sister's bib (she was injured) I had not run a long run since February of this year - this has been the year of injuries! But on a whim I went to the starting line...

Re: Mtl Oasis RnR Registration Opens
Unless you want to run the 1k (for kids) - everything is sold out, 2 months before the races  wonder if this is the Rock & Roll factor, or the running-is-popular factor...but I have never seen this before in Montreal (last year, you could still register for the marathon on expo day, i thi...

Re: Minimalist shoes and adaptation
I know Clinique du Coureur - my physiotherapist associated with the clinic they are convinced indeed that anyone can benefit from running in minimalist shoes. - no matter your size, weight, age... but they advocate an extremely slow transition. I am in this process right now - it is pretty good, but...

Re: Has anyone used Run Less Run Faster?
I did follow the "run less...run faster program" to train for a marathon and I also used the author's e-coaching. The result (for me) was a BQ (that was my goal when I decided to follow the program). For my objective, the program did work. That said, I don't think I will want to follow the...

Re: Vibram five fingers in a marathon
Just saw this post... My physiotherapist just ran Ottawa marathon in Vibram FF - actually, he took his shoes off at the last kilometre - he wanted to run barefoot for that part. (he did not realize that this messed up his time - the timing chip was on the shoe he was holding in his hand  ) This...

Re: This is getting out of hand: Green Bay Marathon cancell
When all of this started, I was thinking about Kona and how hot it was there in relation to some of these recent races (that do start early in the am vs afternoon). My personal opinion is that it's a bit extreme to cancel the event. Boston was super hot and in view of how many people ran, the numbe...

Sorry to read about your injury...it looks like what I have . I finally got the official name for it: ankle synovitis...you can google it. I have continued running on it for about a month after the first symptoms...it only hurt after my runs, not during . My symptoms: swelling, sore spot on inside o...

OK - here is the real deal about deferrals...from RW With all due respect to winners Sharon Cherop and Wesley Korir, the big story for many runners in Boston this weekend was the weather. With temperatures forecast to climb well into the 80s on race day, many of the nearly 27,000 registered entrant...

Re: Mtl Oasis RnR Registration Opens
Interesting. What is the second half of the course like? My sense of Montreal is that it would be hilly. I did my first marathon in Montreal back before Gatorade, shoes and dirt in 1979 so am debating running this year's with my son as his first marathon. Given the R and R disaster in Las Vegas, so...

They are good and reliable , but verrrryyyyyy bussssssyyyyy - it takes a long time to get things fixed (at least a month...)
One has to wonder if it is worth it , with The forerunner 305 costing about $150 at Costco....

Re: Screw shoes... anyone try this?
I ran with screw shoes all winter last year, as I was prepring for an April marathon- it does work really well if you use the right screws (as per website)
This winter, I thought "screw that!" and my new screw shoes is...a treadmill...don't want to run on ice, snow, until March...

There's something wonky with the RR taxes and the total ends up being approx. $7 more. I will probably stay overnight in Montreal on the Saturday. Does anyone have any hotel recommend...

Re: ING New York City Marathon 2012 Application
How does cancellation work? I applied for the lottery but really only because I submitted an application last year. This way I can keep open the option of an automatic entry in 2014. If my number does end up being selected this year can I pullout or would I still be stuck with the registration fee?...
