Re: CinC at IM Texas today (Saturday)

Dave's race was ok - he had a rough run, but such is Ironman! And no Kona qualifier by any means - I suspect you're thinking of the Legacy program, but that is after completing 12 ironman branded races - I'm actually at 9 of those since one of my finishes was Challenge Penticton. Competing in Kona i...

Re: CinC at IM Texas today (Saturday)

Hey thanks guys for following! I saw this thread briefly after the race and then it's been crazy since being back with work and everything. So this was an interesting experience - this race seemed to have had a few hurdles this year between the bike course not being approved until about 2 weeks befo...

Another aspect of the story: https://beyondmiles.aeroplan.com/eng/charity/789" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Does she get to keep all of the donated Aeroplan miles? no clue - I'm sure by now, they've been spent or used. way to go Kendra - I'm happy to hear that you're not a 'one and done' - it's a fun lifestyle and I'm glad to hear you want to do another. you faced some very tough conditions out there on race day - and that's something you can't control. You handled it well and got it done - the tough conditions re...

Re: Predict my IM Aus time

Totally get your decision. Especially when it was raining and got cold. Rest up and ironman will always be there if you choose to go back. And totally cool if you don't.
And I do hate you a bit for your swim split on the zero training. As I am about to head to the pool.

Re: Predict my IM Aus time

swim 1:22
t1 5 min
bike 6:20
t2 5 min
run 5:49 (and I say you will be stubborn enough to finish it regardless of where your friend is on the course)
13:41 +- 30 min - so 13:11 to 14:09

I love the lost puppy commercial, but my favorite was the avocados from Mexico one. The polar bear is hilarious!

Re: Sunglasses on top of prescription glasses?

I wore contacts for the past 5 years in the pool with goggles before getting lasik. Never had an infection (and got water in my goggles more than once) and when discussing with my optometrist, we switched to daily contacts as that reduces the risk even more since that pair is only worn once.

yes. I've done the geeky to test it on the TM and wore the Mio/Garmin combo along with my Polar HRM that synched with the TM. The rates were the same.

I don't think the Mio works with the Tom Tom, but I'm loving the wrist feature and the end of the chafe-crazy HRM strap of the Garmin.

carla had a reply here that i liked-- I was just going to reply but it looks like it's been deleted? :?: I had deleted it. Basically, what I said is that it's nice and simple to pull off a 'canned' training plan from a book or magazine, but there's no customization to you're current fitness or goal...

I'm quite impressed with what they're offering those affected yesterday. Sucks is the money spent on travel, but at least you have options if you were standing on the beach yesterday ready for to race (this is copied from a post on Slowtwitch): You have been identified as one of the athletes who che...

Re: Pace clock or watch in the pool?

If your pace clocks are in sync between both ends of the pool (the pool I swim at can be off) you can gauge your effort more as you will see the clock when you are taking a breath. Or give you that extra push. Pausing to read your watch will take too long.

Re: Pace clock or watch in the pool?

i have a garmin 910xt but rarely wear it swimming - even iffy wearing it in OW as I've seen/heard of too many of them falling to the bottom of a lake due to the quick release (if you have it). I won't put on a quick release for that reason. I know bike purists will say I should have a dedicated bik...
