Invitation to Visit

Greetings all - would love to have some Running Maniacs visit us in Fredericton for the 3rd annual New Brunswick Highland Games Kilted 5k held the evening of Friday, July 25th. Great value and loads of fun - $25 gets you a race tech tee, lots of draw prizes, admission to the opening night concert an...

Re: Guide Needed for Blind Runner

Not to be a smartass, but I think one would require some measure of experience to run a half marathon.

Point well taken - no experience as a guide necessary. Experience as a runner strongly encouraged! :D

Guide Needed for Blind Runner

Greetings maniacs, It's been a long time since I posted on the Forum but I am back in search of a guide. Through my friend Myra (about whom I have often posted!), I have been in contact with Tim McIsaac, a blind athlete who is part of the Won With One group ( http://www.wonwithone.com ) . Tim comes ...

Re: Olympic Torch relay has begun - List the maniacs!

Last night the torch made its way through Fredericton. I wasn't lucky enough to be selected as a torchbearer but just being alongside the route was way more of a thrill than I ever imagined it would be. I was close enough to feel the heat from the flame as it passed by!! Also had a chance to get my ...

Re: song for NY marathoners

Springsteen's Born to Run was playing on the loudspeakers as I crossed the start line at NYC '06. A great omen!! Sinatra's version of NewYork New York is also a must have on the play list prior to running that race. Two other relevant songs: Simon and Garfunkle's 59th St Bridge Song (Feelin' Goovy) ...

Race Report - Tri By The Bay

The Rockwood Park Triathlon By The Bay took place in Saint John (NB) on the weekend and although a small event (63 entries in the Sprint Tri), it was first rate. Aside from the one that I did last month as Myra's guide, this was only my second Sprint tri - first was last July here in Fredericton, al...

While not as fancy as some of the other rides that have been pictured on this thread, I'm proud of "Sebastian" - named for the patron saint of athletes. I even have my RM name (FreddyBeachPete) on him and of course my charity of choice, Team Diabetes. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k100/freddybea...

Any chance that there is a ward or rooms that have been closed at your healthcare facility that could be turned into a shower/change facility for minimal capital cost?

Radical Edge on Queen St. in Fredericton sells wetsuits. If they aren't on display in the store, ask for the owner Mike Davis. He either has them at home or can get them in for you. Great bike shop as well. Nowhere here that rents suits that I know of.

Hi OfficerJen,

Welcome to RM. You've already received plenty of good advice. I just wanted to commend you on your goals - getting active and becoming an officer. Way back when (1977 to be precise), they were my goals too and they were both well worth the effort!

If you have a look at: http://www.atlanticchip.ca/events/ you'll find some (I suspect most) of the maritime listings. I can attest to the Duncan Hadley triathlon being a well run event. First weekend in July every year. Sprint, Oly, Du and Team events. http://trifred.trinb.ca/

Denise is a true inspiration and obviously a great talent. I met her in Boston '07 when she spoke at Manulife's pre-race dinner. Sadly, she had been forced to withdraw from the race due to an injury. She still though was out at 5 in the morning in the middle of a hurricane to wish us well as we load...

Tonight I tried Spinnervals for the first time. It was one of the base ones. I'm also not very practiced on the trainer either so have a lot to learn. Notes to self: 1. Remember to bring water  (if I was cycling o/s I would NEVER leave home without water :!: ) 2. Turn up the sound so I can he...

I received a Spinervals "Time Trial" DVD to accompany the bike trainer I was given at Christmas but it had a 9.5 rating so I took it back this morning and got the Aero Base Builder 16.0 (difficulty 7.5) instead. I just tried it and it is perfect for me.
