Re: Downtown Ottawa

I moved along the canal in February and I couldn't be happier with the running location! I'm actually between the canal and the river, so I have two great options. Unfortunately, my schedule doesn't line up with yours, but there always seem to be folks out running! Keep me in mind regardless Scrumh...

Re: Downtown Ottawa

You could always do 25-50 laps in and around the Arboretum if you want it to feel sort of like a trail, in a "not really but maybe almost close" or "at least part of the run was on dirt" sort of way  BTW, how are the trails in the Gats right now? It seems like all the l...

Re: Downtown Ottawa

Would love to, but, but, your shortest races appear to be only 50K's ?? Ha!!!  :shifty:  and I didn't even run that, went down under that week instead, so the shortest was 55k. Umm, don't think we could even fit in your runs in the morning, let alone a day? Ha !! :) :P What start...

Downtown Ottawa

It's been quite a while since I've posted...still lurk at times, but my training has intensified and turned almost completely to trails the past few years. I've since moved downtown along the canal...and I mean very recently (week ago Sunday). As I'm not in a focused training cycle now I'm looking f...

Very cool, and come on NMG you'll learn to love the heat someday, although I still despise the cold.

Re: Salomon Snowcross

Hey MTBlanc, I've not ran in these exactly but have tried no less than 4 pair of Salomon. While many like the brand I'm not one of them. I consider Salomon shoes for people without toes. They're typically much too low volume, and narrow forefoot. I've also struggled with the the location of the zigz...

Re: Eastern Ontario Dion Snowshoe race 2014

I'm planning on being at the Ignite the Night race- looks really neat! I'm helping to organize the one in Brighton. Last year was supposed to be the first year for it, but we get so much snow the night before we had to cancel it since the road into the park was impassable.......... Plan to run it a...

Re: Race Advice

Interesting info DStew...I didn't know that about the Banff marathon, its a bit cheeky of the race organizers and I see why it didn't sell out with that approach. Banff is beautiful, but if I lived in Calgary that would really tick me off and I'd skip it. The big city marathons I've always felt are ...

Re: Race Advice

Rant start... So I decided maybe I should look at winter man for kicks and to give me a goal. My rant is the price of races. Currently its $122 tax inc for this race. There is nothing special about this race except the cold. Its a 5k loop on the parkway that you do 8x + a kicker 2k. We're DINK's wit...

Re: Routes in Lugano Switzerland?

I just spent a few weeks in Switzerland but nothing in Lugano. Check for a Hashhouse. Despite not joining them for any runs, when I pinged the group they responded in typical Swiss fashion, which is incredibly friendly and helpful.

Maybe not too early but definitely too cold. The Missesran it last year, I was a spectator. That was an insanely cold day.

Re: Race Advice

Thanks Scrumhalf I was just hopping I had bad tooling abilities for Ontario races. I'm thinking Waterloo or into May is too late as I'll need full trail/long pack carrying focus then. Well maybe ATB it'll be or I'll just train for it and not race.

Race Advice

It's been a while folks...been lurking but not much to say lately. Just running/travelling/running/travelling working and sleeping. Speaking to coach tonight he suggested running ATB. I've ran it 2x already and pretty sure that's enough for now, I may reconsider but still thinking. He wants me to fo...

Re: Limberlost challenge

Inov-8 Terrafly, didn't think I'd like then nearly as much as I do. 6m drop, light weight, and a decent bit of traction on trails. Very well put together shoe. Just got a 2nd pair as back-up Sunday, and plan to start Vermont with them.

Thanks everyone, I will take food the next time. I'm certain I'll get odd looks running a race eating a sub, but so be it.

@JWolf, roads are evil...pure and simple. Nobody has ever been run over on a trail, or at least I think not :)

Re: Jwolf's "Run for Water" Marathon

This report comes back to the sign I keep seeing...if it was easy everyone would be running these. I'm way more impressed when someone puts their head down and says to hell with quitting I'll will my way to the finish crawling on all fours vs those who have no trials/tribulations during a run. Great...

ORW for NGCaper

Ottawa Marathon Race Report: I had been in Orlando all week returning home Thursday night late. I slept well Thursday but had a horrible 2 nights sleep leading into the race. I pinched a nerve in my neck Saturday evening loading dirt into/out of the truck. Why I would do that the night before a race...
