Re: Merry Christmas Monday

Merry Christmas all! I had a break day, as my legs are dead from a snowshoe run on Saturday, followed up by a snow run yesterday. I have to do something tomorrow to work off some of the turkey, LOL!

Re: Winter... To run or not to run?

The main difference, for me, between winter and non-winter running is my pace. I am just slower running on the snow than I am on gravel or pavement. To adjust for that, I run by time spent running rather than distance. For example, if you normally cover 5k in 30 minutes on dry pavement, you may onl...

Re: Winter... To run or not to run?

No problem at all using the TM in the winter to maintain your level of running fitness. Heck, you could even increase it using the TM if you wanted to. They can be a great tool for training. I think the big thing that will impact you will be your planned volume of running over the winter as compared...

Saucy Saturday . . .

8K for me in the greenbelt this morning. Saucy because I had someone look at me and flippantly remark "shorts . . . really?", LOL. I didn't see the issue, it was gorgeous outside!

Re: What happened to the daily thread? (Thursday)

Just under 11K for me. I think it was right around zero when I headed out. Still in shorts, but needed my rain jacket, gloves and a toque to cover the ears. With all of that, it was darn near perfect!

Re: Do you run in the rain?

I pretty much only use my treadmill when I have to (e.g. my wife is working and I have to get some miles in while my son is in bed, it's too cold or the sidewalks aren't plowed, etc.). Most times in the winter though, I'll just run to the local trailhead and then pop my snowshoes on! I can say that ...

Re: Do you run in the rain?

Yup, all the time! How I respond largely depends on the season or the amount of rain. If it's just a sprinkle or light rain, I don't really do anything different unless it's cold outside and then I might layer up with a second shirt. If it's raining heavy, I'll throw on a hat and rain jacket unless ...

Worn Out Wednesday . . .

Legs felt like they were made of lead and I just couldn't get into any type of rhythm. I called it in and just did a quick circle around the neighbourhood for 3.5K.

5K for me and that was enough. Temperature in my truck read 35, no idea what the humidex was, LOL.

Swampy Sunday . . .

Got out around 8:00 this morning for 9K and managed to beat the crazy heat that will arrive this afternoon, but the humidity was still quite high and I think the humidex was around 30. Glad to get done early as the humidex will be pushing 40 in a couple of hours

Re: Shoe Lace Tying... Whaaaat

I've tried that heel lock method and never got to like it. It seems like the laces are often too short to do that and make a good bow. However, sometimes I run the laces through the extra pair of holes in the regular way--seems to help lock down the heel, too. I'll do that if I need to lock things ...

Steamy Sunday . . .

10K Army Run for me this morning. I'm not sure what the temps were, but by the time the last third of the race was rolling around, it was quite hot. The first part of the course was pretty well shaded in spots, so it made it easier going at the start. It was enough to give me hope that I could pull ...

Re: Shoe Lace Tying... Whaaaat

I never do that and even if I wanted to, I'd have to go buy different laces because I would never have enough length to do it with the laces that come in my shoes. The beauty of a wide wedge shaped foot, LOL. As for tightening, I keep my laces pretty loose in the mid foot. I will tend to tighten the...
