Re: Staying cool on the indoor trainer

I used to ride my trainer on my 20th floor balcony... I'm sure the people in the other buildings thought I was a freak.

Now I just keep a window open and a fan on me.

Re: Beach to Battleship

I can't say enough about this race. I did it in it's second year and the organization was fabulous. It used to finish at the actual "Battleship", but it's too big now I guess. Loved reading your report, brought back some fantastic memories and I was right there along with you! Did you see ...

Re: Sad story

Mine doesn't have the orange border. :( Although I'm thinking now I should get a wrist one-- I don't really like having it around my neck. Sometimes I end up putting it in my waste pack. I don't really need it for any immediate health concerns, although it does have my blood type on it. I figure em...

Re: Sad story

I am kind of late to the thread here, but to those who are considering ordering a Road ID I do have a couple of suggestions. The owner of the bike/tri shop I worked at was an EMT for a long time and he had some first hand experience that he always shared when discussing getting a Road ID Although th...

Here you go Mike...

Already completely "investigated" by someone with one hell of a lot of time on their hands.

The video I've seen is scary. That took a lot of people down and fast. Hoping for minimal drop-outs.

Re: Sit bones

Not sure if you want to try a new saddle, but I recently discovered what I think is the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden.... the Selle SMP. I got an "Evolution" model tester from my LBS. It's in Selle SMP's "minimal" padding line. I was told long ago that less padding ...

Re: Boston Dad may have some explaining to do to his son

There's one person who has posted in the very long Runner's World online thread that went to the "real" media with this story. I'm not sure what to make of it. Yes, it seems as if there are no other times in his portfolio that indicate a 3:11 marathon, and his blog (which had a lot of boa...

I heard PYP turned out to be a great day... no snow, lots of sunshine, but cool temperatures. Looking forward to running Seaton 50k. My first race in a very long time. Running to finish... hopefully under 8hrs. :| I'll be there, keep your eye out for me and say hello :) Not sure I'd recognize you f...

Re: Athletes Hit By Bullets in Puerto Rico

I have a friend who raced today, and have been in touch with him. It was apparently a gang/drug related thing that just happened to spill onto the course. There were rumors about it being locals trying to sabotage the race, but that's all cleared up now. The actual incident took place a couple of KM...

Re: Garmin 610 - feedback?

I ended up getting a great deal ($139) for a refurb from GPS City. I did read about the straps, and there is a solution (they're selling a velcro replacement strap now). I'll deal with that if I have to. I wanted something I could also wear as a "watch". Thanks for the feedback, much appre...

Garmin 610 - feedback?

My well used and beloved 305 is on it's last legs. The GPS started to count backwards about an hour into my run on Sunday :-S! I've been looking at re-furbished items on GPS City and have seen a couple of 610's. Wondering if anyone has one and how they like it. I've checked DC Rainmaker and it seems...

Re: Bike Pedal/cleat question (Look Keo)

I'm not interested in trying anything new at this point because clipping in/out is so automatic for me now. The guy at the store suggested Speedplay (the lollipop style), but he said it takes getting used to because you don't clip in the same way (step down as opposed to stepping forward/in). I kno...

You're still getting that nice gentle downhill at the end, and they haven't removed the nasty 8K or so of rolling up and down from 18K ... ;)!

I wear trail runners as well. I grabbed a pair of Saucony Razors a couple of years ago on clearance. They're a "higher top" trail shoe. http://www.runningfree.com/images/products/31/Saucony-Progrid-Razor-N29472_XL.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (mine are HOT pink though...

Re: To flip or not to flip...

Another vote for touch/push off camp. I "tried" to learn how to do flip turns a few summers ago, but after the multiple sinus cavities full of chlorinated water and my lack of ability to time it just right so I actually flip so I can push off of the wall, I gave up. It's just as easy and m...

Re: Winter bike storage

Mine is either hanging or on the trainer, so tires are always inflated. I would only deflate them (a little) if it was hanging. If it's standing and the tires are deflated I think you're running the risk of developing a flat spot on the tires where they are contacting the floor. Not exactly sure how...

I dealt with Raytech when I broke my Garmin (dropped it and cracked the screen). They are the warranty depot in Canada and if I remember correctly, they sell accessories/some parts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Agreed. We used Raythech for any store returns/repairs. Quite often they simply re...

This part is weird... they list muskoka with the full ironman list and again with the 70.3s. Mistake or preview of things to come? Those Ironman races with no pro prize money are Boulder, Louisville, Wisconsin, Maryland, Lake Tahoe, Florida, Muskoka, Los Cabos and Lake Placid. In addition, 11 70.3 ...

Re: Hot breakfast cereals

I've done the cold refrigerator oats (with Greek Yogurt/berries/honey) in the past and liked it a lot. I like quinoa for breakfast on my carb days. I cook a batch in water so I can do savory or breakfast style with the left overs. I warm it up with some almond or coconut milk, some nuts/seed/berries...
