Millarville "Run To The Farmers' Market" Half Marathon

My favourite pet project, the Millarville "Run To The Farmers' Market" Half Marathon race day is coming up on June 13, 2015. This is a beautiful, point-to-point jaunt, all events starting in Black Diamond, half marathoners and relayers doing a tour of Turner Valley and everyone, including ...

Re: beautiful Sunday

I was running on Racetrack Road, north of Black Diamond, out on the proverbial bald butt prairie this morning when a brown Chevy SUV pulls up beside me, matching my pace. A window rolls down and a grinning lad asks: "Excuse me Sir, but would you have any Grey Poupon?" Hahahahaha. I remembe...

Re: Rainy Tuesday

19 KM in the early morning. A country run, lots of deer nearby and putting some horses on the run. About 8 C at the start, 15 C by the end and 27 C later in the day. A blood red sunrise through forest fire haze. Then a cubicle commando in south Calgary the rest of the day.

70 km round trip on the bike from my acreage south of Calgary to my office in the south end of the city. Like doing that a few times each summer.

Re: Two interesting articles

I'm sure the previously appended smoking paper was written tongue in cheek but . . . . . . when climbing Kilimanjaro a few years ago, with summit day feeling about seven times harder than a marathon frankly, I had heard from our experienced guides (100+ summits) that smokers tended to have an easier...

Re: Overcast Sunday

Was out in the field whacking thistles with a hoe under a hot sun when I thumped the ground and apparently disturbed a subterranean bee nest. They were boiling out of their nest at my feet. Dropped the hoe and sprinted like heck back to the house. It was a ways. Gasping when I got the door shut behi...

About 32 Km on a hilly, boiling bike ride. I did stop for ice cream near the end though. And more hustle head whacking in the field. I'm not too committed.

Re: Rainy Tuesday

Boiling hot day . . . . Ran about 8 km in the city, then a roughly 16 km bike ride before heading home to our acreage where I walked out into the tall grass of our field and whacked some thistle heads with a hoe for a while. Life on the prairie.

11.1 KM with the local running club maniacs this morning. Brisk pace and wore off some of the baby fat I'd been accumulating. New running shoes make a lot of difference. Then took the dogs walking for a few hours along Chain Lake, a lonely lakeshore on crown grazing land near the mountains.

Re: Super Sunny Sunday

Ran 14.2 KM and then got a sharp, stabbing pain in my hip turning a corner, so shut it down and walked another 1.6 km back to my vehicle on a lonely gravel road. Nice!! Don't think its anything serious. Probably fine. Just didn't want to aggravate it. Then took the dogs out west for a nice walk and ...

Ran the High River Half Marathon, a double loop around the town ravaged by flooding last year almost to the day. Pathways and roads. They had just re-opened George Lane Park, the start/finish line a few days before. Still lots of rebuilding going on, clean-up, empty buildings downtown waiting refurb...

Re: 2015 Calgary Marathon

The city of Calgary has given the Calgary Lilac Festival May 31, which means the Calgary Marathon can't use that day in the future. You can really put this on the Lilac Festival. Were there so many runners sneaking off into the bushes that the Lilac Festival needed a restraining order against the m...

Re: 2015 Calgary Marathon

It's not really a week later; if they have designated it as the first Sunday in June, that's just how it comes out this next year. From 2009-2013, Calgary was always the last Sunday in May, therefore the one week shift actually took place this year. More generally, the calendar date of a race eithe...

Re: Banff Marathon

Why would Banff have a high no show rate, especially if it was so expansive? Would people be no show just because the course was no longer scenic? Someone can correct me but it may be the cancellation last year meant everyone's registration got rolled into the new year. With a lot of out of country...

Re: Banff Marathon

They had about 685 finishers in the half marathon and about 285 finishers in the marathon. A roughly 24% no-show rate over registrations. About 10% is normal. Its hard to see this race surviving. Environmentalists are strongly opposed to it and being proven right, the route is ever changing and unre...

8 km in Fish Creek Park, Calgary, hoping the circling afternoon thunderheads didn't get too serious. That time of year.

Signed up for the July 1 half marathon in High River, hoping that gets me going a bit. Organizing the Millarville Half in the middle of June zapped me a bit energy-wise.

Up at 5:30 am, a 33 km bike ride with a can of spray paint, marking up next weeks half marathon race course for our venue crew and suppliers. Tagging with spray paint is best done with no witnesses of course, hence the early morning. However, there were some elk just outside my door as I was leaving...

I saw Karnazes at Big Sur International Marathon five weeks ago. He ran from the finish line to the start line, then ran with everyone else back to the finish line. Fifty two miles on one of the most difficult courses in the world. Pretty amazing,

Re: 2014 Calgary Marathon Turns 50

I sacrificed about 10 seconds with about a third of a click to go to the finish line to pick up a crisp, new $50 bill wandering around next to a pylon. Wow!!! I'll contribute it to the treasury of the Millarville "Run To The Farmers' Market" Half Marathon coming up in two weeks. Hope every...

Every little bit of info can lead to another bit of info and so on and so on.It could help in tracking you down, or potentially your children, and help with identity theft. Would somebody who left an abusive relationship want his/her abuser to know s/he was running in such and such a race and would...
