Valley Harvest Marathon 2009

(Small novel ahead: summary at the end.) The original plan had been "The Nova Scotia Marathon" in Barrington, but recovery from the bike accident was slower than anticipated, and that marathon came and went without me. I did manage to get some running in before officially starting a traini...

Rum Runners Relay - Leg 4

I wasn't out to actually RACE this one, as I'm actually two weeks away from my second marathon. I did have 28km in the plan for Sunday, so I shuffled it to Saturday and joined the crew, maniacs and non-maniacs, to run the 25th Rum Runners Relay as part of Team 27: RunningMania.com! Wore my orange RM...

Just two pairs, Andy. I figure that's enough for now, and by the time they wear out, I should be ready to look for something new. Go with what you love, right? :D

ananas, I found the 2.1 at Cleve's Source for Sports. They are likely available at SportChek now too, but not sure. The 2.1 has a lot more ankle support, and caused me some pretty serious chafing for less than 500m of running. Try them, but I wouldn't bank on keeping them. If you also like the old G...

Canadian Online Shoe Source?

I've been to my local running room four times in the last few weeks, spending about an hour each time. I've already tried and returned two pairs of shoes, and have one more pair to try. Really, though, I want my old pair of shoes - only without all the mileage! I checked Holabird, but for some reaso...

Wow, I can't believe people actually read the whole report!

Thanks all, I'm learning lots about proper pacing and strategy, and working toward some goals. Cabot Trail Relay really is a ton of fun; I've already signed up for Leg 4, Cape Smokey, for 2010!

CTRR 2009 - Leg 9: Bicycle.boy on the road to recovery

(Alternate title: The bicycle.boy who went up a hill and came down a mountain) In my usual manner, I have written a small novel about my race experience. Feel free to skip to the end for the results. :-) Those who were there will attest: I was not my usual self. I'm generally pretty hyper and enthus...

One thing though-- I'm confused as to why Ian told you that you should be faster than him on the downhills-- theoretically he should be pacing such that someone who is right at the 60-minute ability comes in at 59:59 or under-- that means faster than 6:00/km on the downhills and slower on the uphil...
