Wind briefs

Hi guys (and I mean guys here),

MrBJHv2.0 has taken up running. Yay! He is gearing up for winter. I’ve explained that a thing called wind briefs exist, but I actually don’t know the temperature range where they become critical.

So, how cold is it when you pull them out of the drawer?

Re: Do you run in the rain?

I'm curious: why did you think people would say not to do it? I thought that there might be a safety issue. Maybe the ground would be too slippery. I suppose if you're wearing good shoes, your traction will be good enough. Another thing is that there is most of the time another option like a treadm...

Re: Garmin Vivoactive HR (thoughts?)

You've bought it so this is kind of irrelevant now, but in case someone is searching, I'll add my two cents. I like my Vivoactive in general, however, it doesn't allow me to set up the watch for cues for specific workouts, such as warm up, set of timed intervals, cool down. My 305 had that and I kno...

Hey Joe, sorry for the late reply. Secrets from Your Sister does fitting and sells sports bras. I would recommend trying there.

Re: PanAm Games - Spectators? Volunteers?

I went to watch some of the Parapan cycling yesterday. It was pretty awesome watching the tandems fly up the Ellis Park hill and watching the hand cyclists crank up it. I have a question that Googling hasn't helped with. How does the sighted rider on a tandem get chosen? Are they restricted in any w...

Re: Mississauga vs Toronto Marathon (May)

i want to feel like i'm running with other people. i tend to prefer bigger races with more excitement, if that makes sense. I'd give slight edge to Toronto in that case. There are just more people around, so you get a more out cheering. The start at Mississauga is a bit more fun. Toronto starts on ...

Re: Mississauga vs Toronto Marathon (May)

What do you like in a race? Are you planning on combining some visiting and where do those folks live? I've run the half, multiple times, at both and I find it comes down to what I'm in the mood for. I live a few blocks off the Goodlife course though, so logistics are easier (TTC bus to start, drop ...

Re: Sportinglife 10k

Does starting at the store really make a difference for such a big race? Not starting at the store or changing the downhill nature of the course would change the character of the race. I'd speculate in a similar fashion to fingerboy that the announcement will have something to do with charity, spon...

Re: starting off with a 10km run

To add to Jwolf's point, distance running is about optimizing efficiency. It's more efficient to move less weight over a given distance. You can eat at a deficit and still build leg strength. There is a point at which dropping weight will result in diminishing returns, but that point is on the light...

Re: starting off with a 10km run

How many times a week are you running? How far each time? Good shoes are important, so well done there. To improve your time, you can run more, do speed specific drills and/or lose weight. The general guideline for increasing your training volume is no more than a 5% increase in distance or time per...

This. I find that doing sun salutations semi-regularly really helps out with tightness all down the back of the legs.

I find they are a smidge heavier, but if I don't think about it, I won't notice. I run about 3 km each way to get to trails and that is fine.

You might want this, too, just in case you want to run some more.

Re: Question for Toronto people

This may be a bit late, but if you google your way to a street called Boulton (not far), on the west side is a park entrance to the Cedarvale Ravine. There is a path there that goes almost to Eglinton (and connects to the BeltLine via side streets).

Re: Toronto Maniacs: Can you help out?

There aren't unsafe areas in Toronto. Well, I don't know that I'd say that. I wouldn't suggest they stay at rooming houses in the downtown core like on Jarvis or Sherbourne. ;) Areas in general. ;) Yeah, there are rooming houses that we weren't allowed to go into when I was a meals on wheels volunt...

I'm still using the ANT agent for mine, but I'm curious about the Garmin Express software that Nick mentions. The ANT agent seems a bit flakey and I haven't had a lot of time to investigate.

Which Garmin do you have?
