Re: Listen to your body. UPDATE Mar.22

Interesting thread, lots of great points. I have a friend (a non-runner) who always tells me I should push it more when I run. He feels that I am holding back and that I need to go all-out for at least one marathon, at the risk of limiting myself. Odd, because he is such an old, trustworthy friend.....

Re: Boston Marathon Moves To 3 Wave Starts

Wave Two baby! Just like last year...although I should be starting further back in the corral, as my time was 10 minutes slower than the first BQ.

Re: Boston Marathon qualifying articles

I don't like the transition part of the BQ standards - I agree that it is not "fair" to have someone (like Lorne) who qualified have it yanked away from them. I do like the new standards, because it did seem remarkably easy to BQ in my new age group - I ran with a camera, hugged people, po...

Re: Boston Marathon qualifying articles

Isn't this system similar to how people qualify for Ironman Hawaii - a kind of rolldown system? It seems to me the fairest way to determine who gets to go, and who doesn't...and yeah it makes Boston brutal to get into again.

Re: Boston Marathon qualifying articles

One resolution would be to have "A" times (tighter standards for a guaranteed entry) and "B" times (current standards for lottery eligibility) This is the solution I am hoping for. JFK50 implemented something similar for 2010. They haven't posted the 2011 standards yet. That wou...

Re: Boston Marathon qualifying articles

I don't know what Ray is complaining about ;) I have a valid complaint! Ha ha but to get back to the topic of "fair", I played against a guy that was 6'11" and the ease with which he dunked a ball didn't seem "fair" to me. I could dunk with reckless abandon if that rim was ...

Hill Workout for me tonight - 4 x hills but I am also going to practice running down the hills, to prepare for Boston. Total distance should be 8-9 kms.

Re: Boston Marathon qualifying articles

I didn't know you could use a Q time twice if it was a fall marathon. They should dump this one, for sure. I'm using my Chicago 2009 time this year because it's the best of my 3 times and will give me the best start but I didn't run last year; if I did, I don't think it would have been fair for me ...

Re: 2010 in review

It's so cool to see how differently we all measure the year in review. Hmm what would I consider? 1. Ran my first Boston Marathon, and qualified again in the process. A big highlight! 2. Stayed healthy throughout the training cycle. 3. Attended the annual NCM Running Mania M&G. A second huge hig...

Had a great 14.5 km LSD today, left the usual asphalt paths in the valley to explore some mountain bike trails for 2 kms - they were awesome! Can't wait to explore more next weekend!

NFL time!

Why doesn't Disney count? It's still a half-marathon...or is it that you are not going to race it?

Re: Running/Training Goals 2011

Great idea McShame! I plan to run 3:20 or faster at Boston in April (this will mean I need to stay injury-free through the training cycle). I will start training for triathlons / duathlons after Boston. I also want to do better at working on my core, but I find it boring so I generally avoid it. Hop...
