Re: Headlamp/Lighting

As I ponder my crazy decision to run 100 miles this year I know I'll need better lighting You need more then a better light  I love the 2 light option because it cuts down on shadows plus you can't beat a redundant system! I am using an old Petzel with the external battery pack. Its a bit cumb...

Re: Why Run Ultras

I run Ultras because its fun...that's all. When I first started going long I use to get a big kick out of the "WOW" factor.... your going to run how far...WOW! I know I have progressed from "WOW" to "ZEN" because when someone asks me why I do it my response is "bec...

Re: North Face ECS- Blue Mountain

Limberlost is an awesome race and truly highlights the best of Muskoka Trail Running! I highly recommend this race for the great tails and the volunteers that are second to none! I did 50 K there in in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and will definitely be adding git to a future race calendar. I am an avi...

When I read Morgans post I did a double take on the year! I am now on to Mega's tactful strategies , something like "I had no choice dear the 50 miler was sold out". http://youtu.be/eE2537J2G34?t=23s

Re: Sulphur Springs 2014

Couldn't commit the entire weekend to running so I just switched to the 50 miler. Besides there is nothing like sleeping in your own bed, running all day then making it home for dinner with the family! There are some things going on that could prevent me from doing the race but I knew if I sat on th...

I was asking for details and North Face emailed this response....

Ron,

I've been told now that the 50 mile course will essentially be two almost marathon length loops. We hope that you will register with us this year!

Re: North Face ECS- Blue Mountain

So fickled .. want to do Limerlost but I really want to do the North Face Race primarily because of the Venue, Blue. I am waiting for the course layout. Apparently its going to be a 40K loop. Checked registration and there is already a handful registered for the 50 miler and they are all over place ...

Re: 2014: Plans, Hopes and Aspirations

What are your plans for the new year? I would like to suggest that everyone adds at least one component that is outside your current comfort zone As is usual most of the OUS stuff. The first OUSer the Laura Secord 100K is the one I loose sleep over. 100K on the Bruce Trail is going to be quite a ch...

Re: Cadence

Guilty as charged ... too bouncy! I mostly run Ultras so all that up and down for hours on end surely adds a significant amount of fatigue. So I will work on a slightly higher cadence with a little shorter stride. Should make that next 100 miler a little easier. Wait ...lesson learned a long time ag...

Re: Cadence

Board on the treadmill recently I checked my Cadence 6:00 pace = 160 5:00 pace = 172 4:30 pace = 178 I am not sure which is better or necessarily correct changing your cadence or your stride length to adjust speed. I always felt like I started running once i surpassed a 5:00 pace. It just felt diffe...
