RIP Gord Dickson
Just a quick note to share the sad news that Gord Dickson - 5 time winner of the Around the Bay Road Race - passed away yesterday. Coach Gord was a very kind man and a selfless coach and contributor to the sport of running. Here is a little more about him. http://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/at...

Re: RBC Run for the kids – 2nd annual 5K/15K/25K
Yep and If you tried to go outside the pylons, you risked getting clipped by a car coming on your left shoulder. It's feedback I plan on giving to the race organisers because it's such a worthy cause that one would hate to see the race's reputation affected by an accident. The course was definitely ...

RBC Run for the kids – 2nd annual 5K/15K/25K
7,000 participants in all 3 races – raised $1.7M to help youth with mental health issues. A very good cause. Good for RBC, Good for Sunnybrook and Great for youth! The race: 7:00am start for 15K (717 participants) and 25K (281 participants). 8:30 start for 5K (3664 participants). I might suggest tha...

Re: Has the Marathon Boom Peaked?
Shaking my head at the replies. I've run plenty of 10Ks and they're really cute. :) None of them or their associated training schedules are as rigorous as a marathon training schedule. It seems that the example cited below indicates that you run your best 10K after resting - especially if the marath...

Re: Has the Marathon Boom Peaked?
26 miles is an arbitrary distance that has gotten too much mystique from both inside and outside of the running community. It doesn't take any more character or dedication or fitness to complete a marathon than, say, to get a kick-ass 10K PB, yet the latter is afforded significantly less respect. I...

Well done Robbie! It's a shame we didn't get to chat....you picked up 1st in your age group...even better! I threw in a 5th in the same age group ....long way to go to catch you though! My pal Matt from the Nomads was behind you in 7th...I agree with you, it would have been lonely up there. The upsi...

Well done - very nice race - wicked time - I'm very impressed Ken! It was nice to meet (re-meet) you and your wife and to chat with our fellow maniacs. You rocked the course. OMG what a hilly bugger eh? I think folks warned us but OMG!!! Thank God my music was drowing out the sounds of my weezing! N...

As long as the finish for Goodlife is still Ontario Place rather than Queen's Park, I'd say no difference. If the finish is back up University, then I'd say go with Mississauga. Hmmm....I hope they don't change the finish....would they vary it year to year...haven't there been enough changes to the...

Re: Toronto runner caught kicking CDN flags on Remembrance D
When he is identified, he should have to apologize for such a thoughtless act. I think everyone agrees with that. However, shouldn't Jenny Yuen of the Toronto Sun have to apologize for calling him a "jogger"? We know he exercised poor judgment but derogatory name calling is not the...

9K done - calf feels good. Aiming for 36K this recovery week...not too bad. Heading to see the Steelheads tonight with my girls. They just got a new kid from the Colts - Smoskowitz - pretty good. Tough division this year.

Many ways to skin a cat.
Who came up with that expression anyway? That's gross. Anyway, I wanted to share with the gang my approach to training that allowed me to improve on my marathon time. Prior to this fall I had run 7 marathons. Even though I was capable of running a 3:30 time since 2006, I was never able to capitalize...

OMG - stop it! You guys are making me feel bad.  I admire you for being so disciplined about your nutrition. My snacking has gotten out of control - thankfully the high mileage has meant that I haven't gained - but this thread is a good reminder of what's missing from my routine if I'm ...

Sheldon - have I mentioned how much I hate the wind? Maybe in passing? It's nice to have you back out there! The last time we ran together you crushed me...you'll get back to that in no time. Hey Windy, Thanks for the great draft during parts of the course. :D I followed you for quite some time on top of the escarpment prior to heading down and then some along the beach. Nice race, not sure I would agree with the trail part, I found those hills are bit awkward. I have another week to re...
