ORW Friday

Didn't want to repeat my tabata run today, but I did it anyway. Accidentally hit the kill button on the 3rd set and took way too long to reset and get it going again. Debated resting and starting over all 8 sets, continuing with 6 remaining sets , or splitting the difference and doing 7. When I got ...

Re: Bear Aware Thursday

I've been doing Tabata on the rower lately and saw some good progress in only a few days, so today I bit the bullet and ran a tabata on the treadmill. The hard part about the treadmill, as opposed to outside, or the rower for that matter is that the implement decided the pace, not my effort. So i se...

Re: Future of RM

I tried a whole new mix of spices which I naturally didn't record or measure, and by the time I could log in and post them I couldn't remember. But it's sooo yummy. I know I added some celery seed, coriander seed and a bit of chili pepper, along with cumin and a touch of curry, but I'm sure the was ...

Re: Future of RM

I think the social media thing is great, but I can't help thinking that having a strong presence at races with his signage is a key tactic. Not an easy one, but when people see the community in action, it has a more profound impact. And is we ever do shirts again, having the site address in large pr...

Re: Cycling rocks

Excellent points old friend.

Like i said, i don't really read his posts and I've been absent for more than a couple of years, so I'm really in no position to judge.

It just seemed harsh to me.

Thanks for sharing your perspective.

Re: Cycling rocks

I do find it a little sad that a user who criticised the elite ruling class of runningmania (not actual elite runners) and cliques that make some users feel excluded is immediately ridiculed and belittled by the clique. I rarely make it past the first paragraph of his posts, I don't have the patienc...

Re: Running Mules..

In this day and age, with everything electronic, there's no reason not to allow transfers, the way Ottawa race weekend does. Charge a fee for the transfer and let them decide the price. Or even control the price through the transfer system, either way. The only thing I dislike about the Ottawa is th...

Who is this Ironboy dude...did you suddenly remember your log-in password? Actually, I had to request a password reset. Evacuation Tuesday

Gas leak in downtown Ottawa, so we've been evacuated. Headed home on a bus. Thankfully I got my yoga class in before all the hoopla. Today we had the odd instructor. Good, but odd. Things like "breath of joy" and slapping along our arms and legs, tapping chest, skull and cheeks with finger...

Overhead squats today, up to a heavy single of 155#. Still need to work on shoulder stability overhead, but hip and shoulder mobility is coming along nicely.

Still feeling my legs for my second run in forever on Saturday, 9km of humility.

Re: Article: Running Is The Worst Way To Get Fit

Why oh why did I open this thread? As one of the few people here who actually does Crossfit, and has been for over 5 years now, and who is fitter (by the Crossfit definition) than at any other time in my life, I can attest to the fact that there isn't any greater risk to Crossfit than any other full...

Holy crap, you come in to look for a squash soup recipe and you find this.

We should go back to poaching users from the RunningRoom forums, like in the good ole days.

Re: 2015/2016 Resolution Threads Moved

Cleaned up the annual resolution threads. 2015 and 2016 are now moved to the NRR Forum where the previous ones existed and I merged the two 2016 threads. Followed IB's suggestions and un-stickied the 2013, 2014 & 2015 threads, plus made the new 2016 thread a sticky. There are links to the previ...

Re: Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Wednesday

Apparently this thread was invisible to me (not really) This week I've done a multitude of pushing, pulling, rowing, overhead, squat, you name it, it was time for a run. This was my first run since June 16th. It's hard to be motivated when you are building back up your endurance and there are other ...

Re: Will the Rain Ever End Tuesday?

I opted for the gym and did 15 minutes of strength work, then a 20 minute run. Good for you! Today was supposed to be a rest day. When I texted IG to see what her lunch plans were, it was with the expectation of a relaxing lunch. Didn't expect her to be going for a run. So be it. Laced up and heade...

Get well scrummy. Ran my 5km route. Tried to slow things down, find my easy pace. Moderate success. Averaged around 6:00/km but there were points where I was breathing too heavy for conversation (granted I didn't test this since I was alone). Overall a successful run. I think I need to run with a gr...

First time running twice in the same week since the calf issue started over a month ago. First time running more than 5km since... well... in months! Ran to the canal Ritz, which is 3.4km from the Y, for a total of 6.8km in 41:35. No calf issues, rolled them before heading out. For a warm sunny day ...

Re: Tempo Tuesday

Best run so far. Same 5km route. The cool and overcast weather certainly helped. I focused on form and let pace take care of itself. Made to the halfway point in 14:05, no stopping, not for water, not for shoe laces, not for tight calves, not even for traffic. Got back in 28:28. So 14:23 for the sec...
