My walk around NYC

Sorry it's long ... read if you want :D Where do I start. NYC was supposed to be my first marathon four years ago but Hurricane Sandy had other ideas. Then last year I was set to go and my Aunt was hospitalized. She was 90. I am her only family in town. Long story short I deferred. This year I have ...

Re: ORW Weather Forecast . . .

One thing that surprised us was the lack of Nuun and limited water at the first couple of water stations. Glad it was improved after that. It was scary to think that every station would be almost out by the time people in the back of the pack got to it. I carry my own (I use Tailwind) so it was not ...

Re: ORW Weather Forecast . . .

It's a hard call for sure. Ottawa is supposedly cooler than here (an hour south - we are already over 30 with humidity factored in and we were at 26 by 5:30AM) but tomorrow is supposed to be hotter than today. At least they are now saying 20kph winds which would help. But also thunderstorms moving i...

Re: ORW Weather Forecast . . .

I am watching and concerned about the weather. Thing is I don't thermoregulate well since the brain surgery I had 10 years ago. And the meds I take don't help. But I am going up with 2 others and plan to walk it. However I have learned that walking does NOT equal easier or necessarily a lesser worko...

Re: Ottawa Race Weekend 2016 - who's in?

Where I work (Beyond 21) is one of the charities so I'm in for the half. If anyone wants to run for our charity let me know. We are just asking people to fundraise $50-$100 minimum so not a lot of money. Just trying to raise some extra money for our charity. Beyond 21 is a program for developmentall...

ear bud / ear phones

My brother wants ear buds/phones for running. He says the regular ones fall out of his (big ) ears :) I did a search of topics but didn't find much. Anyone have any favourites?

Moon River Run

This is a new run that started last year in Cornwall, ON. It starts at the Gray's Creek conservation area and goes along a paved bike path by the shore of the St. Lawrence river. It is a night run and is held on or as close to the full moon as possible. It's beautiful to run along the bike path by m...

Re: Eastern Ontario Dion Snowshoe race 2014

There is another in our area at the Summerstown Trails. Last year we had an ice storm the morning of that race. I'm hoping for good weather for this one. They are prepared to host a trail run if we don't get enough snow but with the way winter is looking ...

Eastern Ontario Dion Snowshoe race 2014

With all the cold weather and the snow in Buffalo I figured it's not too early to post this :D The Eastern Ontario Dion Snowshoe series is on again for 2014. There is another race added this year - a NIGHT race Ignite the Night 5K and 10K at Upper Canada Village, Morrisburg! Funds from this race wil...

Re: Piriformis Syndrome

consider shockwave therapy ... I had piriformis post a hamstring / low back injury. Despite physio/ ultrasound / RMT / ART and stretching like crazy it never totally went away. I took 3 months off running for the hamstring injury. Still had piriformis issues! Finally my RMT/ ART started using shockw...

Re: A new month, more snow Saturday

Did what I call my monthly check in run. Basically a short run to see how my hamstring is doing. After 3 months of no running, for the first time, I ran without any pain. So the plan is to keep going and hopefully the hamstring has finally healed and this is the start back. Mind you if I had to pick...

Re: MCM - First Full marathon

My mom was discharged Monday. My brother is with her until today. She is doing well but is quite weak and takes weak spells. It looks like I will be there each evening to assist her to get changed and in to bed and again each morning to get dressed and ready for the day. Also have to make sure they ...

Re: MCM - First Full marathon

Yes very well organized. A lot of security and a lot of line ups because of security but those lineups moved! There was a power outage in the registration tent Saturday that I guess caused a problem (not for me) but otherwise it moved well. Oh yeah people said it was 1 1/2 hours to get on the metro ...

MCM - First Full marathon

Well I ran my first full marathon. Guess I should do a race report. Go grab a coffee and settle in for a long read LOL Short version. Despite an injury in August I managed to finish training and get to the race. It was hard and the injury made me slow and forced me to run / walk the last 10K but I d...

Re: Foggy Saturday

Today was an easy 10K. It was my last 'long' run before MCM. Now to get to the start and make it to the finish. Back at the beginning of August I got body slammed by an aussie dog. Didn't think much of it but nothing felt right in the weeks after that. Turned out it caused a strain to the tendon at ...

Beat the Heat Sunday

Got up early to hit the road and beat the heat this Sunday. Mind you with 26C by 5AM there really isn't much you can do about the heat. The irony is I truly did hit the road. All the rain in June has caused a lot of trees to grow and grow and grow. For some reason home owners do not realize that the...

14 K long run in the fog this morning. Had to stop and clean my glasses several times. Also had to change my planned route as it was so foggy once I got out there I didn't want to risk running on the country roads - visibility was pretty low. Having said that I ran along the waterfront bike path. Sa...

Rainy, wet and high winds here! I've seen these done at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto but this is the first time the...
