Re: Report: Lance considering confession
bankers and fund managers get away all the time. Why not Lance? For the same reason when I am speeding with 5 other cars, and if I'm the unlucky one who gets singled out, that I pay the ticket. When one gets caught one should face the appropriate consequences and pointing at other people claiming t...

Re: Report: Lance considering confession
I would say that since Lance has been stripped, and now has confessed, that my opinion of him has changed. Prior to 2012, I'm pretty sure I saw him as just any other sleazy athlete who cheated - a guy "who did some lousy things." A Ben Johnson or Carl Lewis (imo) or whoever.... With the de...

Re: Report: Lance considering confession
I think it is a gutless move. Get his lawyer to phone in a trial balloon that he "might" confess but he is only doing it so he can resume his athletic career so, you see, Lance didn't really do it, he's just thinking about admitting to it, and if he does admit to it it's only to resume his...

Kusam Klimb June 2012
The Kusam Klimb takes place the fourth Saturday of each June in Sayward on Vancouver Island, BC. Sayward is about a 45 to 55 minute drive from Campbell River - which is usually where people stay the night before. KK can be either a race, for which the course record set in 2012 was 2:23:03 for the ap...

Re: Drinking Chocolate Milk Post Run?
I used to drink chocolate soy milk (can't stand the blood and puss found in milk - makes me too phlegmy). Then I woke up one day, realized that I am not an elite athlete, nor had any aspirations to be an elite athlete, and stopped this nonsense (I run a lot slower now but that's ok because I'm good ...

Re: Marathon might not let young boy run again
Ya, word.....or the age restriction for marathons might be based on best available medical advice. Boy, I would hate if that was true. Especially since i had watched all those episodes of House. http://aimsworldrunning.org/articles/Children&Marathoning.pdf I wonder how much those children run i...

Re: Marathon might not let young boy run again
Land of the sissies strikes again. Would someone please THINK of the children!!! They could, gasp!, scrape their elbows. Better put warning labels on kids running attire! It's probably some insurance liability nonsense decided by some SUV driving, Tim Horton's snorting, lazy boy sitting, heart attac...

Re: Using a juicer
I wonder why a juicer? I recently bought a Magic Bullet which I think is one of those "as seen on TV" type things. It's about $40. It's not a juicer but the wife and I blend up strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, pineapple, and/or mango each morning for a smoothie breakfa...

Re: Woman gives birth after finishing Chicago Marathon
Well, sadly I am unable to find a link to the podcast of a doctor who was on CBC this morning discussing this case. To paraphrase based on memory (and note my bias per my earlier comments): Basically, his knee jerk reaction was concern for the health of the woman and the baby. As he looked into it a...

Re: Woman gives birth after finishing Chicago Marathon
I think bringing up the consequences is a good point. The media and many people focus on consequences all the time and it annoys me to no end. I don't buy into the consequences justify the outcome. The point I have been trying to make is this: if she was driving around town with her husband, for som...

Re: Woman gives birth after finishing Chicago Marathon
OK, maybe I'm exaggerating, but having experienced the other side of it, where my baby was born within a few hours of THE FIRST SIGNS of contractions, it makes me uneasy to hear of a woman taking such risks for something that's only for her own enjoyment. My baby's birth ended up being intense, qui...

Re: Woman gives birth after finishing Chicago Marathon
For instance, I had contractions...and spontaneous placental abruption (my "water broke" on its own)...for a good 28 hours before my body was anywhere near ready to spit my baby out. In fact, I had contractions for a good week, then the placental abruption...then the contractions went awa...

Re: Woman gives birth after finishing Chicago Marathon
look at your evolutionary history more carefully- childbirth was the most common cause of death in women before the modern era. And just because she and her baby turned our ok doesn't mean there was no extra risk over her normal routine. It's well known that certain behaviors are riskier than other...

Re: Woman gives birth after finishing Chicago Marathon
Clearly this woman is ignorant to have ignored all the obituaries of women who have walked several kilometres while having contractions in a crowded place with ambulances everywhere in a city with world renowned medical infrastructure! The data on this subject is overwhelming. Shame I say! That guy...

Re: Woman gives birth after finishing Chicago Marathon
Just like running is an experiment of one I think pregnancy can be too. But thankfully I'm a guy so I don't have to find out for myself! The reasons I think people are making a big stink out of nothing comes down to at least these points: 1) We are complete wimps in our modern society and hav...

Re: Woman gives birth after finishing Chicago Marathon
Ok I admit to not having any knowledge of pregnancy   , but my initial instinct is to call the woman an idiot for risking her health and more important, the baby's. Something does not sit right with me on this one. :-t I heard this waking up this morning and I was cursing like a sailor....

Re: Woman gives birth after finishing Chicago Marathon
You know sometimes we forget how woman in parts of the world where they do not view a birth as a medical procedure often have to walk that far to even have the ability to give birth with a trained attendant. When I saw this in the news I had a few thoughts: 1) I thought this was a case for whitewhi...

Re: Women need an hour of exercise per day to not gain weight
Ok, that makes sense. Except I would include an hour of yoga in the moderate exercise group. Running, at least when I run 15 or 16k in an hour, is probably in a different category. So, the appropriate, pro-yoga!, wording would have been: I don't know why they put running for an hour into the moderat...

I would have had to have strangled it using one of my Five Fingers (the shoes, not my fingers).

Re: Hunter not guilty in trail death
2. Deer normally don't like humans. I'm an exception. I have run with deer 30 meters away. I think they thought it was fun. I see them 2 - 3 times per week, so maybe they are used to me. If you are a hunter, do you really expect to find deer 500 meters from 168 houses? Wow, you're lucky that you do...

Re: Runner hit by Deer
This is a consideration to make when considering listening to music while running. It turned out to be a deer running full speed of about 30 kilometres per hour perpendicular to my running direction. I may be dead if I was wearing earphones that day. And I do wear them occasionally on country roads...
