Re: Mo vs. Bolt

I don't think you can really apply any aerobic/anaerobic analysis or whatnot based on whole populations of elite runners... not where Bolt is concerned. Farah is the man of the hour (but not nearly the greatest that ever was at his disciplines), but Bolt is by himself in uncharted territory of huma...

Re: Tell me the truth

That new routes section looks good. Good idea. I agree that threads should have a uniform title format... Province-City-Route Name-Distance or whatever. Maybe enforce a "no new topics that aren't specific routes" rule, so it doesn't get overwhelmed with I Saw A Turtle In Taylor Creek Park!...

Re: What's your gym equipment? What do you recommend?

Dream gym? Bench, squat rack, pull-up/dip bars, dumbells and barbells and enough plates to keep the ones I use commonly assembled. +1. Definitely a bench with adjustable incline (all the way to 90 degrees) so you can do incline bench press, seated shoulder press, seated incline biceps curls, etc. P...

Re: An Open Letter to David Cameron and the IOC

I watch because I like the athletes I know and have followed for years. And to look at the hot bodies of the competitors. Right, that's you (and, frankly, me). But you have to acknowledge that many sports are televised during the Olympics (and get huge ratings) solely because it's [cue trumpet burs...

Re: An Open Letter to David Cameron and the IOC

MMc, I never really saw the games as 'nationalism' because the athletes wheel and deal to find a 'country' that suits them or allows them to compete. ie. N.Americans playing for mother countries, or Australia b/c Canada hates their spambot program. I see personally the oly's as training groups (lik...

Re: An Open Letter to David Cameron and the IOC

I think Stephen Fry is overestimating the importance of where the Olympics are held. Holding Olympics in Russia is hardly tacit approval of all things Russian... because the location of the Olympics is entirely irrelevant in the first place. Whatever the Olympic experience is, where it is doesn't ma...

Re: Jogging Obama

Lookin' good for a man in his 50s. It's funny how the only not-in-shape president in the past hundred years is the one who made the ladies swoon. If I had a time machine I would make in-their-prime Gerald Ford, the two Bushes and Obama compete in an American Gladiators competition. That would be fu...

For sure. If he was a real American he'd be riding a Rascal scooter to all those appearances. I bet the guy doesn't even have Type II diabetes. What a fraud.

Re: Top 10 running fashion faux pas

If a body is such that it needs tights to deal with a thigh-rubbing issue, odds are people don't wanna see that body so specifically. Ahem. I bought a skirt off lululemon's "we made too much" section, and it fits kind of funny (it's really tight and short) but it is super comfortable to r...

Re: Top 10 running fashion faux pas

Shorts over tights are not only okay (that looks becoming quite popular in basketball, which is by far the most trend-setting sport), but often preferable. If a body is such that it needs tights to deal with a thigh-rubbing issue, odds are people don't wanna see that body so specifically. Throw some...

Re: Sprinter doping scandal widens

Racism plays a huge role in all of this. If Silken Laumann were a black Jamaican sprinter, there's no way she would have had a chance to plead her case in the court of public opinion. She tested positive for a very, very well-known PED (NHLers were going nuts on cold medication for decades before t...

Re: Sprinter doping scandal widens

The other red flag for Bolt is the one Lance had - his teammates and buddies started going down to doping charges. He also has links to a guy that doped up Marion Jones (Angel Hernandez)... just like Lance had links to Dr. Ferrari. http://tenpercentorless.blogspot.ca/2012/08/want-to-run-958-speak-t...

Re: Sprinter doping scandal widens

I don't think any of them are bad people. I just don't think any of them at this level are truly clean either. Disappointed but not surprised. How could anyone be surprised by a positive test in this sport? I still want to believe in Usain Bolt. Apart from his performances, I don't see any red flag...

Re: Sprinter doping scandal widens

I can feel some empathy for Tyson Gay. Injuries really cost him so much, so I could see how he might view a little injury recovery "boost" as a victimless crime... Stealing back what was stolen from him. Doesn't make it okay, but doesn't make him a bad person either.

Re: pizza in Toronto

The sauce may not make the pizza, but it can be a deal-breaker. Never again will I eat pizza with a creamy or Alfredo sauce :snooty: Non-tomato sauce is perfect with the right toppings. A creamy pesto sauce with garlic chicken, pine nuts, maybe pistachios, a bit of artichoke or spinach, perfect. :s...
