If you can walk a whole marathon ,you're a hero in my books. I can't even walk 800 metres to the subway without breaking into a run.

Re: Wet leaves ...

You could follow the orienteer racers' technique of sliding down the hill on your butt. It works well – until you hit a jagged rock that's hiding under the leaf cover.

Re: Toronto Marathons: 1 vs 2; spring vs fall

I'd say (and hope!) that Toronto is more like Chicago than Duluth, but Chicago has the advantage of being in the States. Alan Brookes knows the Waterfront won't becoome a Major, but he wants to bring it to the top of the second-tier races. It'll be very interesting to see how this all plays out. I ...

Re: Toronto Marathons: 1 vs 2; spring vs fall

If you look at the five "Marathon Majors", apart from Boston you're talking about 4 of the most tourist-attractive cities in the world. Toronto's not nearly in that league. Toronto is a fantastic city in which to live and run - and I love my city - but I'd be fibbing to claim I think it's...

Acording to the TWM website, a lot of credit for the 2004 increase goes to Ed Whitlock and Fauja Singh. http://www.torontowaterfrontmarathon.com/en/history.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; 2003 Canadian Ed Whitlock becomes the first person on the planet over 70 years to run under ...

Nice article, I am such a big fan. When was the interview, obviously well before the Scotia half? He's a fascinating guy. I could have talked to him for hours (well, I did talk to him for hours, but could have talked for hours more). I interviewed Ed in late August. At the time, he was unsure of wh...

Re: Training in flats?

It is another version of the barefoot running debate. Everyone will have an opinion. If you are used to supportive, cushioned shoes, would suggest transitioning to less supportive, spikeless track shoes slowly. My first reaction, would be depending on the mileage, it would be okay. I use lightweigh...

Fun race. Who was the Maniac spectator with the RM socks? That was hilarious. I was hoping to at least beat my joggling time, but oh well, next time I'll do some training. That was me! hee, hee - I knew who you were! (even without your balls!) Yes - Dave BQed today - needed a 3:15 - came in 3:13:2x...

It's going to be a nail-biter for Lisa's BQ. She's on 3:44-ish pace at 35k, but that's gun time. Big finish, gogogogo!
