Re: Big Dreams

In about 10 years I'm going to semi-retire; right then we're going to sell up and buy a small condo and a big boat. We're then going to spend the following 10 years sailing around the world spending the kids' inheritance. Can't wait... 8) Sounds wonderful :D We just fulfilled one of our dreams. Dh ...

Re: 100 Days of Summer: are you in?

oops. like all great ventures, planning to have a plan doesn't usually result in the same success as when you actually have a plan and stick to it. so just in time for the solstice, the 100 days of summer gets a reboot. day -1: off to the pool. did everything right today. made a reasonable plan and ...

Re: 100 Days of Summer: are you in?

Day 1: feeding hummingbirds. doesn't sound like much, but climbing down and up the cliff to our neighbours' house was strenuous. 20 minutes.

Day 2: more hummingbirds. 20 minutes. total = 40 minutes

Day 2: neighbourhood walk + humming birds 50 minutes total = 90 minutes

Re: Blisters...to pop or not to pop?

if you pop it yourself, you can control the conditions by disinfecting before popping and then putting a blister bandage on it to keep it germ free. if left to its own devices, it might pop in less than desirable conditions.

with a history of mrsa, you could even justify a clinic trip.

i figure if we aim for 15 minutes per day, it will be like the running experience - once you are out, you stay out. on the other hand, 15 minutes may be my limit.

Re: Protocol for passing on a race course?

another issue is that not all runners [most runners?] are at all "schooled" in passing techniques and running etiquette in general if they haven't signed up for a clinic of some sort. being prepared for anything to happen [passing on either side, being cut off, etc.] is important.

Re: Laundry soap for running clothes?

I just bought a new liquid from President's Choice that's made for athletic gear. It has eucalyptus oil in it, so it smells yummy! I have a load in now, so I'll report back on how it worked. Dark load is out and it smells great! :) White load is in, but I used powder for that, with just a 1/4 capfu...

Re: Breathing Patterns For Longer Distance Swims

For swim drills, I am breathing every three strokes (just like it says in all of the books). However, I have found that I need to breath every other stroke in order to make longer distances. Is it better to increase breathing frequency in order to make the distance, or should I be more patient and ...

Re: Laundry soap for running clothes?

I was just wondering what you use to wash your running clothes? I just picked up a new running bra at the Mississauga expo and the salesperson told me I should not use liquid detergent to wash my bra (or any other running gear) but the powder would be okay to use. Has anyone heard this before? Yep....

i always like the SMART acronym for goal setting - specific, measurable, attainable, realistic [or relevant], timely.

of course, i always do the talk in my showgirl garb. some days you will need to dig deep to find an alternate persona when your inner athlete is in hibernation.

i had exactly the same thought - that can't be a woman. and essentially, some female athletes get so low in body fat that their hormone profiles are hardly female at all.
