Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

The bio oil is not actually that oily. I used it. I was lucky to escape without any stretch marks. But I do agree its probably just that some people's skin will get it and some won't. I used body butter from the body shop. Was really great for itchy skin and I escaped stretch marks too (but that is...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I remember feeling so guilty about leaving my kids so I could run or exercise. Don't feel guilty for taking time for yourself. :) I only feel guilty when Zack says "no Momma, no go running. Stay and play". Breaks my heart every time. And yet, I still go. It's good for him to learn that it...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Very good advice, thanks. I'll have to remember to check back at this when I am feeling down about running afterward. Knowing how many of you have bounced back better than ever helps, but I'll really have to make sure I don't compare myself to anyone. In the big picture, running won't be the most i...

First of all, congrats Quick Chick! I look forward to reading about your progress! :D So I need a favour and I'm turning to the RM's for suggestions. I'm an "old" mama. All my friends are done having babies, and out of the stroller stage. They aren't much help. My baby hates riding in a s...

Re: 2013 Nike Women's Marathon

I can't this year. :( I have to use my San Fran trip money to go to Edmonton for a wedding instead and I start back at school in Sept. Registration does open up on June 3 and for anyone in college or univeristy, you can get in directly rather than lottery with a cheaper entrance fee. That is my pla...

I am off to buy an iced tea pitcher today and some of the single pitcher packs of iced tea flavours. I bought it for my mom for Mother's Day this week and have been pining over it since then. I will post a review after supper, I am planning to try the piña colada flavour tonight. :-BD Tropicalia? M...

Congrats Tori!! Too bad about the congestion, I don't know how I narrowly escaped it! I saw a ton of comments on Facebook about the same issue... That and 30 min lines for Porto-potties on the course?!? Sure glad I didn't have to 'go.... I totally agree with your assessment of SF vs DC... I'd still...

Re: Nike Women's Half - East Coast Edition

Such pretty shoes! :D And great pacing! What was their reason for no on-course photography? Did that mean you weren't allowed to take photos during the race, or just no official race photogs? No official race photos. They said it wouldn't be offered but didn't really explain. At first I wondered if...

Nike Women's Half - East Coast Edition

Pre-Race - Initially a number of us signed up as a group for the lottery and weren't selected. I was a bit relieved at the time because I had a crazy winter coming up with work. - Crazy work started up as we prepared for a month long hearing. Running was the last thing on my mind. I don't think I d...

Actually, according to the table in Wikipedia, coconut oil has a lower smoke point than most other oils. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooking_oil" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I think that's just for the extra-virgin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoke_point" onclick="window.open(t...

Re: Lorei's Nike Women's Half in DC!

Congrats on your PB! It was perfect running weather this weekend and a really nice race course. That was great you could get away from the crowds near the beginning of the race. I was in the 9:00 corral and it was elbow to elbow until close to 10 miles in. I am jealous you got the sweatshirt, I coul...

Re: Information on cooking oils?

And when I bought it, I was hoping it would be all coconutty tasting; almost like the coconut version of nutella. No such luck, tastes like wax! I made this gluten-grain-and-garbage-free-chick-fil-a-nuggets recipe and it was amazing and quite coconutty. (That guy's whole blog is great.) I just don'...

Definitely a roller coaster of emotion and very raw! I think you did a great job of expressing and describing what so many runners felt that day at the race.

I hope getting your story out in words provides a level of closure you need.

Re: Information on cooking oils?

I am noticing lots of my cooking blogs are using coconut oil too. You rarely hear olive oil anymore. I bought some, I am not really sure what I think about it. It was for a recipe for muffins, I think I would have preferred using apple sauce in its place. I do see a few friends use it to sauté veggi...
