Re: Windy Wednesday

Ahhh... it's all lovely and sunny and I'm inside! And after I did a 50 minute treadmill run last night because I couldn't motivate myself to go out in the rain! I hope it stays like this until it's time to go to ultimate. It'd be nice to run there. (It wouldn't be sunny anymore, of course, but clea...

Re: Simply Saturday

We ended up with 2:58 out there, including shoe tying stops, walk breaks, hikes up, and technical "pick your way" downs, for somewhere around 17-19km. I don't really know the distance, but attempted to piece it together from trail maps. My Garmin, in that whole 3 hours, never picked up a s...

I'm up and getting read to head out!

I didn't post yesterday so here's that: a short little 5km on the trail before a yoga class.

Today: 2-3 hours on the trails. Distance, time, and location all TBD.

Re: Dreadmill incline to replicate hill training?

Yeah, reading more, and thinking more, the downhill part of a hill repeat workout is a different beast from training to run downhill properly and safely (and maybe quickly!) in preparation for a race or general hilly running. So, I think I take back my earlier agreement about the importance of the d...

Re: Age-groups awards

My creative juices have gotten stuck for work stuff, so I just killed time by going back and looking at my results: - 3/22 in AG, got a medal - no ceremony, just go and pick it up - 3/4 in AG, got a medal - little ceremony - 1/3 in AG, got a backpack - ceremony complete with podium - 5/16 in AG, mis...

Re: Dreadmill incline to replicate hill training?

Down is harder than flat if the hill is steep. I think practicing downhills is an important thing you miss on the treadmill. True, true. I was thinking of the disadvantage of losing the down as the "rest" time, but yeah, if it's really steep or you're going to be running up and down hills...

Re: Dreadmill incline to replicate hill training?

One thing I'd wonder about if trying to do hill repeats on the treadmill is the difference in the recovery period. That is, when you are doing hill repeats on an actual hill, you either walk or (more usually, I think), jog really slowly back down the hill. But the key there is DOWN. Your recovery pe...

Re: Tel Aviv marathon postponed due to extreme heat

Ugh. Horrible outcome. :( I was with my former boss/friend last night, who lives part way between Haifa and Tel Aviv. He told me how crazy it's been there, "it was winter, and then the next day, it was 30 degrees!" So, indeed, no one had a chance to acclimate. (Though I, for one, am not su...

Ryan Hall drops out of Boston Due to Injury

I'm not sure if this is news to anyone, but it just appeared in my Twitter feed and I figure some here will be interested. 11.something km run commute in the wind and (on-again-off-again) rain. I've no clue why I was smiling through most of it. :)

Re: Melting Monday

Yesterday's run turned into a 3.5km stroll as I ran errands and chatted with a far-away friend on the phone. (There was a block and a half or so jog though, as I tried to nab a stray dog.) During that walk, any uphill made my calves cry. Today, I got out for 5.5km and I felt all "off" and ...

Congrats ROW. Where else have you applied? Thanks! I applied to Laurier and Brock for psychology and have been accepted for both programs. I also applied to Guelph for landscape architecture. I don't think I'll be doing that now, it was just kind of a risk. But I haven't been accepted to Guelph yet...

What makes a 5:30 a.m. wake-up worthwhile on a Saturday (CBC Radio 2 was still playing Nightstreams!)? Not work! How about a 24km snowshoe?! Re: TGI Friday Intervals!

In my weird and wacky overly busy week, today is another schedule-induced rest day. I rested Wednesday evening, not due to schedule, but do to sheer fatigue and no mood to go to ultimate. Yesterday, I did 7.2km, going down about 60m and then up 120m in the first 5km. So, it was short, but I kept it ...

Well, La, and JB, I hope you both have much better days today. I am here to report on yesterday's run, since I just now measured it out. It was 12.23km. Just about the same as last week's commute (though a different route), but nearly a minute faster. I'm slowly clawing my way back, even if my milea...

I had kind of thought I might run yesterday, but I didn't. Instead, I walked about 7km along the ocean, in the warm sunshine, with a good friend and her baby. And then I thought I might run in the evening, but I didn't. Instead, I went to a Portuguese fado concert. Today, though, I will be taking fu...

The rain continues! 13K with Tikey this morning. It has stopped! It has stopped! It hadn't though, when I went out for 2.5 hours on the very, very wet and muddy trails this morning. Various ankle-deep puddles. Running uphill was sometimes running upriver. And at one point, the trail was so flooded ...

Oops. I didn't have goals, but I didn't really mean to do LESS than January. I'm about 20km lower, with 119km. But it makes sense, since I took an extra rest day after a fall in ultimate, and didn't run last weekend, as I was backpacking and camping (and shoveling a snow kitchen). I did play more ul...

I played 1.5 or 1.75 hours of ultimate last night (poorly - whew what an off night! - but I played). Today, when I read about the rain warning, I was NOT looking forward to getting out to run. However, after a day spent working at home, I wanted to get out. I did a wee little 5.7km, and enjoyed it e...

I can relate to a mental running slump! It's a good thing I have regular run buddies because otherwise, I wouldn't get out there too often these days! I need them, or a destination, like run commuting. Today, though, I managed - even though my friend had to cancel - to get in 5km...on my own... on t...
