Carm's first half at STWM

Heading into race week, I was feeling great. However, I made my first pre-race error this year by going to my first core class of the fall and doing all the reps! The next day, my left quad felt sore and 2 days later, it hurt! I had strained one of the muscles in my quad 3 days before race day! Clea...

Holy cow, that's amazing! Congrats Kiza! It was very nice of Cynthia to do the race with you. She's a pretty crazy gal doing the 5K and half marathon in one day. :)

Just read on FB that he's a little bit injured (I think from a bike crash).
It will be interesting to see if he is able to run this race.

I saw his FB status too. Injuries always suck especially for someone had his level. :(

Re: ATB 2011

Great heads-up, but I'm not brave enough to be an early bird for this race. :) I'm going to do my first 1/2M first at the end of September and see I feel afterward. It sounds like an amazing race and I love those tech shirts. You'll be ready in time if you want to do it Carm. It's a great race. And...

Re: Hot and Humid Sunday

I rode to and from a 'for fun' Pentathlon this morning. Ran 1500m (6min:50s), did standing long-jump, ran 400m (1min:32s), did shot put and ran 200m (39s:48) to cap it off. It was very toasty on the Terry Fox Track in Ottawa but I had so much fun. These are all PBs for me after my first season of ru...

Re: Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Sept 26th

It will be my first 1/2M. I have some friends and family running the full (also hoping to BQ) and there was a plan to meet for lunch after they're done. I'm in, unless of course I win the contest for a lunch and 5K run with Simon Whitfield. ;) Not that I'm trying to decrease my chances of winning bu...

Rumour has it that either that they may no longer be offering or making available the 310xt w/o HR .... :?  Isn't that interesting?! ;) I picked mine up at RR on Merivale last night and will be taking it for an 18K test spin tonight! Yay! For curiosity's sake, I'm going to tr...

Re: Age old question: Garmin Forerunner 305 or 310xt

Well apparently, I make decisions quickly....the verdict is the 310xt! The RR deal that Andy mentioned plus a $10 off coupon that I've been saving is too good of a deal to pass up.

Thanks all. You're awesome!

Re: Age old question: Garmin Forerunner 305 or 310xt

You can get the 110 with or without the HRM as well. The good thing about either one (the 310xt or 110) is that you can add the HRM later if you want or use one from an old Garmin. I think HR is a very important tool to have, and wouldn't want to use two different watches to get the different data....

Re: Age old question: Garmin Forerunner 305 or 310xt

Do you really need the HR? as the RR just dropped the 310xt to $299.95 ... :P  Hmm, maybe not since I haven't used the one on my Suunto T1 all season! I may be able to salvage it for use as a HRM and then get away with buying the 310xt without HRM. Thoughts on the use of HR vs. perceived exer...

Age old question: Garmin Forerunner 305 or 310xt

I've already had a peek at some of the threads on this topic but thought that I'd throw out the the question again. My regular old HRM/watch is dying. I'm interested in buying a watch with GPS that will last me for a number of years to come for running, cycling, and maybe swimming (yes, I'm part of ...

Re: Dizzy when swimming

If the surface water was slightly choppy, there may have been some surge. This can cause vertigo in OW swimmers and scuba divers. The transient dizziness could also be a mild middle ear infection. Anytime that I get a viral infection (cold), it goes straight into my sinuses and middle ear.

On the topic of track, do you guys know if any groups have practices in the East End indoor track during the winter?

I know several people who have gone to PSI, although I don't have any names. I can ask around if you want a specific referral. Have you thought about asking Michael (RMT) for a recommendation?

Good luck, J.

It was in my race plan to carry 2xGatorade but, in retrospect, I should have dumped one bottle and refilled it with water in T1 since the weather was cool on...

Thanks gang! I had a blast and look forward to my 2nd season. I'm already scoping out races. I'm thinking of doing a couple of the Multisport Canada ones like the Gravenhurst tri. The thought of jumping off a boat and swimming to shore sounds too cool. And for the record, I will only be wearing late...

Carm's first Olympic tri in Brockville

I decided to cap off my first triathlon season with an Olympic distance. I completed 2 sprint distances this summer but wished that the swim and run were longer, hence the decision to try an Olympic. Having contended with a running injury last winter, I switched my Winterman entry to a National Capi...
