Watching the elite finishers- so exciting.
I also loved when they showed Katherine Switzer at the start. She's such an amazing woman.

Re: Time limit for Try-A-Tri Swim?
Thank you both! Yes I'm working on being comfortable in the water, that was a big part of this. I can swim one length now with my head up (I haven't figured out bilateral breathing yet) and could swim longer except my shoulders get so sore. Will keep working on putting my face in the water and also...

Re: Time limit for Try-A-Tri Swim?
If there's a time limit it's usually fairly generous (like 4:00/100m). Like eme said- I wouldn't worry about it.
You can probably set your sights on something sooner than on year, though. (says the girl who has only done tris in pools )

Re: "The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"
I wish I could find the FB (or was it Twitter) picture I saw from last Saturday's Diez Vista Ultra which is run by Gary's company, Ridgeline Events. There is a picture of Gary in the finishing area in a tent crashed out in a chair. just an FYI, it was absolutely miserable weather for the race last ...

Re: Future of RM
One idea I had was that we could have a place on the site (outside the forum) for commonly asked running questions. We often get the reruns of same questions from new runners, or injured runners, or whatever. Someone may come and do a forum search and dig up an old post that went off the rails, or j...

I registered for both 10 and half.
Mary just posted on Facebook that she did too.
Yup, I should have gone to sleep early like I planned. Instead I have signed up for two more races in the fall

Speed work seems to be the theme today! I went to the track too for 4 x 4 min (each were about 800m for 5:00/km) with 2 min recovery. I'll take it- for now.

Vancouver Running Festival October 21/22
This is great news! When Competitor (Rock n Roll) pulled out of Vancouver, Lions Gate Runners took back full control of the Cunningham Seawall race-- now they have rebranded the weekend as the "Vancouver Running Festival." They will have a 10K on Saturday and a half-marathon on Sunday (Oct...

Re: WOW...Utter BS
I'll take this further and say qualifying times for races like Boston should be the same for both genders, as opposed to the 30mins window. There are a lot of females that run faster than women, so not all Boston qualifiers are created equal. When you become race director, you can make the decision...

Note: I am truly and sincerely for equality, and it irks me when the people crying wolf, pick and choose to suit their agenda. Ideally, men and women in all professions will get paid the same, and qualifying times for races will be the same for both genders. You can't make the qualifying time...wor...

Yes, I agree it's ok for members to call each other out before things get out of hand. Perhaps in this most recent case someone else should have been called out first (and I almost did, but by that point the thread had already taken a turn). And to those suggestions above to let people express opini...

It was great to read Gary's short report and hear again in his own words what happened. Looking forward to Gary's full report in a few days. Also a big shout out to John Kelly (a triathlete!) who became Barkley's 15th finisher. Meantime, this article includes a statement from the race director about...

i actually didn't realize that you could set a world record within a race like that - at least not officially. interesting! now i know.
The race has to have the shorter distances within the race certified - but it is quite common.

I wonder, though, if he's as heartbroken about it as we all are for him. I guess it depends on what his motivation is for doing it, and how he defines success. All you have to do is watch that video to know how devastated he must be to have missed it like that. As Jono said, it wasn't the six secon...
