Well, like Jacob said you're better off doing shorter runs at that pace (4:30/km), or sets of repeats, to get the pace in your legs and brain. If you've never run that pace, then trying to run the full 10K for the first time at that pace will be pretty tough. You're trying to do a lot at once, I thi...

What helps me the most is mixing things up. I do my long runs usually while leading a group. I focus on my pacing and talk to the group members, and the time literally flies by. For my shorter runs I mix up the paces over the course of the week, so that I don't get bored (and so my body gets used to...

I have 3 weeks to bring my 10K down from 50-52 minutes to sub 45. Any insight? Stephan- I'm not Jacob, so sorry for butting in, but... When did you do 50-52 min? In a training run, right? If it wasn't an all-out race, then maybe you can do 45-min. If it was your fastest pace, then improving to 45 m...

Just finished a 6K "fun run" as part of a conference I'm attending. It really was a fun run-- no bibs, official timing, or whatever, but there were about 100 participants.
It was probably a bit under 6K, but I did it in 29:55. :D I'll take it!

Rest day for me, too.
Jacob-- I think almost everyone gets some stiffness, sometimes recurring aches, etc. during taper. It's like your body has remembered what it's like to run less! Don't sweat it. You're gonna do great on Sunday. :)

Safety really isn't an issue if the music is not too loud. But it's true that some races do ban them for that reason. My personal opinion: I love music. I train with music for most of my solo runs now. It's essential on the treadmill :) . But in races I've never wanted to use headphones. I like to d...

You can always get the energizer lithium rechargables-- more expensive, but they last longer with each charge than regular alkaline batteries (and way longer than NiCd). And no environmental issues, there. I use them for my mp3 player, and they're great.

hm, interesting. But if I'm just craving calories then eating just about anything should help, right? But yesterday I had eaten enough and was still craving pizza. Well, maybe you didn't have enough. But our bodies are actually pretty stupid when it comes to craving calories, too. So much of hunger...

hmm.... can I answer the original question? holly- it seems that you're body is just craving calories. When you run 15 miles, that's a lot of calories! (more than some people eat in a whole day). our bodies aren't really smart enough to "crave" protein or carbohydrates or meat or whatever. Sa...

I actually don't use a watch (including my Garmin) for 10&1s anymore, because I'm accustomed to watching the time and don't need it. I used to do that, but now I really enjoy not thinking about it, especially when I'm pace-group leading. I couldn't do the math very well after about 1:30:xx... :...

I think sometimes that people get too tightly wound about following a prescribed plan. You don't need to necessarily follow a prescribed plan, but many people look at the long run mileage while paying less attention to the total mileage. That's just as important. If you have a solid base, you can b...
