Marine Corps Marathon

This race is another large one (last year about 20000 runners, this year it's supposed to be 30000). It takes you by many of the major sightseeing spots in Washington D.C. which makes for a beautiful run. You need to sign up in the early summertime to get in by lottery. I had no trouble- it's not li...

I second that emotion... It's by far my slowest race due to the crowds. If you do walk breaks, don't start them until you're at your proper pace, or you'll get sucked in with a slower mob and not be able to get through. However, it's been my favourite by far as well. When I do it again, I'll seed my...

Are there some basic swim techniques (front crawl) that can help me swim a bit faster? I am able to swim (got all my colours and my bronze stuff when I was 12) but I don't swim competitively at all. I've been swimming 1km at a time for the past 3 weeks and my time down to a whopping 23:50. I want to...

You can try using the treadmill as well- if you put the incline up, you can simulate a hill (I usually put it to about 5-7) and go for a quarter mile or so (400m)

That's a really good idea, Jacob, to run without the garmin. I've found I'm starting to really rely on it to judge my pace too, and I want to get better at figuring it out on my own as well. Good luck with the root canal... this is your hot dentist, right? Smile real pretty at her and ask her for so...

Shoes are one of those totally "personal" things- what works for someone may be murderous on another person's feet. Some basics... Cushioning shoes- for people whose feet stay fairly straight (you don't roll in (pronate) or out (supinate) when you run. Also for people with a heavier footfall. Stabil...

For really good shoe deals check out www.froogle.com
If you know someone in the US who you'll see soon, a lot of the stores will ship for free to the states.

Yeah, I guess you're right... offending people is no good... :D
Understand though that this comes from someone who thought "Team America" was the funniest movie of the year... (it's also by far the most WRONG thing I've ever seen)

You are hardcore to run after getting wasted! Don't let it get you down- you are a great runner, which I'm sure you know! I did a 16K today in 1:28, which I was happy with. It was muggy but not too bad, as the sun wasn't blazing down. My IT is still a bit inflamed though... gotta go pop some advil!

I think it's better if beginners can be right in with the rest of us, rather than having a beginner board- wouldn't want to get cliquey.
But maybe a questions thread? Like an advice column- hee hee

Would we want someone so sensitive as to be offended by "running addicts' on here anyway? :)
