Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Zack has hit that stage too, although it's not constant. I'm really trying not to be embarrassed about it though. He reminded me the other day in public that I have a vagina, and I just said "you're right!" and moved on. I mean, it's not like anyone who overheard him doesn't know which ty...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Moms! It's been over 2 weeks! Let me live vicariously through your running! Tell me about it! I have stopped running, but am trying to be somewhat active. I am doing the tri-swim group once a week, and other than that it's mostly just walks. I am finally able to drink coffee again. In kid news, John...

Re: Ironman Canada - Whistler!

Looped swim and run. One thing I liked about the Penticton course was there are no loops.

I am glad the race is not so close to the Okanagan, maybe the Penticton race will have a chance to succeed as well.

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

And we have hit the stubborn stage of potty training. "NO PEE FOR ME!" He even got one of Damon's diapers and wanted to wear it, but I said no, those were Damon's, and we have no more diapers with a 5 on them. That said, only one accident today and one hold-it-for-hours-to-be-stubborn pee ...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

So last night John got crabby and upset and we thought he had to poop, but he refused to sit on the potty. Dan gave him a diaper (I wasn't impressed, but his logic is we don't want to make him scared of the potty and undo all the work we have done). John just got more and more upset. Turns out, he h...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Some things get an explaination. Some things get a "because I said so". It depends on the situation and the mood. I explain that we have to sit in a carseat to "be safe". It turns into a "because I said so" if there is a fight. I am not going to bend or make it a game. ...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Just to be more clear, here is an example of an alternative, condensed (the actual argument probably went on much longer): Me: John, it is time for bed John: No! Me: Do you want to walk up the stairs, or have a piggy-back? John: No walk! No piggy back! Me: Do you want to go upside down up the stairs...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I really, really like hearing other people's parenting challenges! Not because I am enjoying that other people are struggling (I have so much empathy for you guys!) but because it makes me feel not so alone. There are some days where I have been alone with the kids for 8 hours, John is not listening...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I try to change things up when we are in a power struggle. I will ask a different way, or come up with an alternative.

And sometimes my patience is exhausted, and I snap, and then John says "Mommy yelled". Then I say "Yes, Mommy was very frustrated" and we move on.

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Yeah, that was the problem today, but he was also being super crabby and the pullup won since I hate arguing with my (almost) 3 year old. He was great when we had him in underpants. I'm fairly confident that no one likes to argue with their children. I wish you patience if John tries it today. I th...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Mostly successful day. Two accidents in the morning, he asked for a pull-up. I told him a pull-up is like underwear, but he was being stubborn and cranky and pooped in the pull-up. If John has been wearing pull-ups without having potty training enforced, then he isn't going to make the connection t...

Aaaaaand Buzz is in the hamper, we are on to McQueen. A lot of re-enforcement that we pee on the potty and not in our underpants.

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I figured the moms here would understand... We have started potty training. It was delayed as we were travelling so much this summer, I didn't think it was fair to John. "Oh, you can use the potty? Great! 12 hour road trip!" This morning I asked if he wanted a diaper or underpants. He chos...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

First day of preschool for us here. John has some separation anxiety, so he got pouty lip and a little clingy when I said I was going to go. I distracted him with dinosaur puzzles and bolted! I got a HUGE long hug when I picked him up at 11. His craft was a painted leaf glued onto paper. I said &quo...

At least you guys are hearing about animals. Lately, I keep hearing "I barfed! In the truck!"

Yes, honey, you did. I was there for the horror, and the clean-up. Glad you are excited about it.
