Re: Buying a Bike
Joc- As you saw on FB I ended up getting a cross bike. But I think my needs are a bit different from your because this will be my only bike. I assume you're still keeping your MTB bike. I also am just building up to the sprint distance tris which you've done already on your MTB bike. I can't see my...

Re: Buying your performance on the bike!!
So some debate on the value of clipless pedals . Personally I'm not convinced yet, but if anyone can reference the study Wui Wei was referring to which claimed 30% improvement in efficiency, I'd love to see it :shifty: Andy....... Does Euro-sport exam the tires in a fitting for proper pressure? Do ...

Your forum name does not inspire much confidence in your opinion of flat pedals.

Re: Buying your performance on the bike!!
Still no one answered my question above-- but I see people are comparing clipless to platform pedals. Does anyone use cage clips anymore? Apparently they aren't allowed in some triathlons if they have straps, but regular plastic cages are allowed. I'm assuming those aren't used much though. Cage cl...

Re: Buying your performance on the bike!!
I think clipless pedals are overrated. I know people act as if they can't keep their feet on the pedals if they are not clipped in but that seems like a problem with an overzealous pull on the upstroke, likely at the expense of pushing down on the opposite pedal. I'd have to do some searching but I...

Re: Buying your performance on the bike!!
You can't buy training so ill ignore that... Meh on the fit - it'll make a very small difference assuming you're already comfortable. Bigger meh on the skin suit - practically no measurable difference at the level you're riding at. In order; Disk cover - $100 and worth every penny. Clipless peddles...

I tell all women that this THE most important thing. More important to spend money on this than a fit! Switching my wife to an Adamo massively increased her comfort while riding.

Re: Buying a Bike
I see you are in Edmonton. FIY, The best fitter in the city is Guri at Pedalhead Road Works. Are you interested in buying a road or triathlon bike? Doing triathlon on a road bike is always a compromise, but gives you more options such as riding fondo's. Know which type of fit you need before you boo...

Anyone want an Argon 18 E-114, size XS?
Yeah, I know there is a classifieds section, but I figure all the tri geeks hang out here... I'm selling my wife's MINT condition Argon 18 E-114, size XS. It's the all black paint job. Will post a pic when I find one. She's about 5' 7". Here seat height is 66cm. I would estimate the bike will f...

Re: The don'ts of triathlon swimming
Efficiency is a red herring. Let's pretend you can somehow measure efficiency accurately. Two athletes in swim race. The more efficient athlete finished 2 mins behind the less efficient athlete. Who won the race? The one that finished the run first. It's not a swim race, you and the ST OP were/are ...

Re: The don'ts of triathlon swimming
Greg, you know I'm not stupid and of course I want to get faster. I realize that efficiency is meaningless if it doesn't translate to speed. I know it feels easier and I'm not getting as tired so I'm assuming I'm using less energy. But I'm not getting faster. Well I am, but not a lot. That's why I ...

Re: The don'ts of triathlon swimming
Those are good points about the coach. My current coach is great for helping me correct by position and technique, but so far that hasn't translated appreciably to speed. I know it's only been 6 weeks, but I was led to believe (not just by him) that correcting my stroke and body position would lead...

And I am not saying breathing every 2 is bad. Just personally I don't do it and it can be different for everyone. It also depends on someone's coach too. I know that. You believe in your coach, that's important. I am also a 200-400 free guy so breathing every 2 isn't stressed as much. But I can see...

Mostly by times, and cleaner stroke.
Times are a measure of your speed, not efficiency.
How do you measure that you have a "cleaner stroke"?

I find about breathing every 2 or 3 a more personal thing for swimming, even in open water. I see some fast swimmers (16 min 1500s) breathe every 2. But some also breathe every 3. Every 5th stroke is hypoxic swimming. Are you trying to get in too much air with each breathe and exhaling slowly maybe?

Re: The don'ts of triathlon swimming
That's a neat blog entry but why are they so anti-breathe every 3rd stroke? When I'm working hard (sprinting) or encounter waves or splashy people, I'll breathe every 2nd or to the opposite side of the obstacle but when I'm in a steady groove, I breathe every 3rd naturally. What's wrong with this? ...
