I don't carry a spare tire either. Just the standard things to fix a flat (like Trix...I have no clue what to do with them YET!!) I have made a promise to myself to practice changing a flat. I also have $$ and my phone. However, a phone won't help me because my DH has told me that I need to learn ho...

In less happy news, we got a call this morning that my father in law is unconscious and in the hospital - the day after he turned 86. This doesn't look too good, and everybody is pretty much bracing for the worst.

OMG...I feel awful. I spent the entire night puking. Ugh. I was supposed to go for 70K ride with a friend this morning and it was my day to plan the route. I couldn't really call her at 3 am  to tell her that I wasn't riding. So, I emailed her and sent a text messages. However, I worried that...

OK so today was the first day I've been out on my bike since I started this thread and I had a great ride. I thought I'd fill you in because this thread has helped me. I honestly believe that part of my problem is confidence. It's easier to go slower. Today my attitude was that I was going to ride H...

Re: Interesting site - Cycling

If you go to the right hand side it has a tool kit with lots of little calculators, etc. (different things we've talked about like - stroke/gears/weight) http://www.analyticcycling.com/ Wow, very interesting. I'm sure that site could keep us talking/debating for weeks. Interesting link I found ther...

Went to Kettlebells class last night. (it's been months since I did a class). They were doing the class "Russian Style" which means heavy weights for 3-5 reps and move on.
It was very challenging. Ohhh those Russians.

Today is a step class followed by a 30 minute run home.

I can't thank everyone enough for their input here. La - your #1 makes a lot of sense to me. As you know I'm working on my weight and we all know that's going to take time. So, I'll continue to eat well and exercise and hopefully I can shed a few more pounds. In the meantime, I'll ride with the fast...

Take frozen chicken breasts and place in slow cooker with maybe 1/2 Cup warm water and cover with salsa. Cook on high for a couple of hours until chicken can be "shredded". Once the chicken is done, it is ready for any mexican dish of your liking - chicken chili, chicken tacos, chicken burritos - y...

Yesterday's ride was a bit demoralizing. I went from leading and pulling a lot last year, to pulling very little, and drafting a lot yesterday... :? I wonder if the 4 or 5 extra pounds I'm carrying made the difference? It was windier than hell... I've been doing lots of strength training over the w...

Re: How do I learn to ride faster.....?

What's your goal? To be fitter for commuting, to road race, to do triathlon? Mark - Hijack away...this is very interesting. Greg you asked what my goal is. I would like to be able to keep up with the group I cycle with. (not a very lofty goal eh?). I rode with them yesterday and I was in the middle...

I think it is quite like getting faster at running. I do tempo type rides where I ride at "comfortably hard" effort for up to 120 min to build endurance. I do hill repeats and/or sprint intervals - at nearly all out effort for 5-10 minutes to build power. I do LSD rides to build aerobic base. I'm n...

The best I can suggest is get into a controlled situation where you can just hammer - track, bike lanes, out in the country - and not have to worry about the cagers. This is exactly my plan. Currently we are riding outside 3 times a week and one of those rides is shorter in time and distance so I m...

While riding with a faster group helps ultimately you are probably trying to develop your ability to time trial, which is purely individual. Getting faster at biking works a bit differently from running. You need to find what type of riding suits you best and do repeated bouts of that at speeds fas...

How do I learn to ride faster.....?

OK Maniacs, How do I learn to ride my bike faster? I want to increase my overall average speed and need your help.
