Re: Running in Montreal

Good timing I'm there in 3wks and was looking for advice on a long run through Mt Royal. I have 40 on my schedule for that day. Staying at the Hyatt on Jeanne-Mance. Any additional advice or links? Thanks 40K? That will be a LOT of loops of Mt. Royal! Maybe check with the Westmount Running Ro...

Re: Running in Montreal

I, too, was going to suggest going down to the canal to get flat. Start with a run down hill and end your run with a walk back up to cool down. Restos around there... depends what you want: - Walk a couple of blocks west to Saint-Laurent and (just north of ) Sherbrooke for what I always called the &...

Re: Top 10 running fashion faux pas

Oooh! Oooh! Me! I saw one yesterday, right downtown by the convention centre, as I stepped out for a walk to get lunch. I so very very much wanted to take a photo. For the most part, she looked fairly good, I think... fit little young woman with long blonde hair, wearing a super tight white tank top...

It's supposed to be 27C, feeling like 30C by the time I play ultimate both today and tomorrow. Haven't played in that kind of heat for a while now!

Re: Thick Tuesday

I'm looking forward to a run along the seawall after I drop my son off at his camp. Plans changed. I had some extra time today so I went to Grouse- hiked the Grind in 55:39. 8) Plus about 2k easy jog warmup first. Out of curiosity, where did you do your warmup? The Powerline trail? The parking lot?...

Re: Tips for keeping pace in check ?

I, too, was going to suggest adding some faster/harder runs - a bit of speed training. Most training programs include a slow, easy, longer runs, a steady medium run, and some speed work of some form, at a minimum. I don't know if you listen to anything while running, but on the psychological side of...

Re: Why does running make me want to &h!t so much????

An update, as of last night. Our poopy friend has found some measure of relief thanks to his return to sea level. He blames Calgary for his HAFE. (But I'd say he's still full of hot air! :P )

This is great for you, James! Try not to do the "what if" too much. Whatever happened happened, and it did get you where you are now...the family you have, the acting, the music lessons... think about the things you wouldn't change! Back at Air Canada, I sat next to a guy who fell asleep a...

Thanks, all! She's now the proud owner of a pair of... purple somethings. I can't recall what. They're neutral and no, she didn't pick them for the colour. As you guys promised, the guy helping her was knowledgeable and helpful. And Jesse, Jean cashed us out. :) Will your Niece be training wi...

Thanks everyone, and yep, J, I saw your FB post, too!

We're going to hit up Sports 4 downtown before she drops me off at the train station. (Back to Montreal I go... this visit was so short! 9 day trip divided into 3 3-day segments.)

It's her first pair of "real" running shoes, so we'll need a place that can evaluate and give some advice.

Re: Ottawa's west end - Best place to buy running shoes

Do you have Marg's #? You could text her to find out. She doesn't check RM as often anymore...but texting or emailing her directly would probably get you a pretty quick answer. Indeed, you are correct. And indeed, I do. I also posted on FB... figured Jesse or Andy or Marg might answer. If not, I'll...

Thought some of you might like reading/listening to some of this: One week ago — at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Monday, just over four hours into the race — the first of two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. This image, taken from the NBC broadcast of the race, shows the fla...

And now all the conspiracy theories about how the brothers weren't the real bombers and how the FBI covered the whole thing up are coming out. Oh, they've been out since pretty much the day after. Re: Boston Tragedy

This will be short and, I hope, heartfelt. Nothing that I did today compares to the tragedy at the finish line. I have no desire to relate my experiences before the horrifying conclusion. I will save a Boston Marathon Race Report for next year when I will run it in tribute to the victims and their ...
