Re: Ottawa Marathon - too hot???
It can get hot for sure, but I think the worst part is that the weather can go from cool to hot in a relatively short period of time at that point in the year. Two years back, for example, I ran the half and it was in the low to mid 20's. Not crazy, but most of my training runs were done in single ...

My Heart's Aflutter
No, it is not because of Christmas and the thoughts of enjoying it with our kids coming home. In early November I volunteered for a Study on Heat and Exercise at the University of Ottawa so was hooked up to a bunch of monitors for 3 hours in 38 degree heat during which I cycled for periods of 30 min...

Re: Boston Marathon 2016 Jacket
Was never big on the jacket. Three Bostons and bought one jacket (and then a week later for 50% off online). Doesn't require actually running Boston to get one and seems to be something that can overworn after. The actual Boston marathon shirts which are only for Boston marathon runners to me has m...

Re: A new ban - Canadian triathlete
I guess we should be under no illusion that shortcutting courses and other forms of cheating is purely a problem in the USA or other countries, or that it is a marathon thing. Also in Canada, you say. Pity. Guess, it is no longer Miller Time in the tri world.

Re: Good news for Paula
I read some article about Paula's genetic makeup (really high VO2 max) that contributed to her really fast running... There was this article regarding the sub 2:00 marathon possibilities http://rw.runnersworld.com/sub-2/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Good article with some interest...

Good news for Paula
It looks like Paula Radcliffe has been cleared of doping allegations. Happy about this but it may be the nature of the times, but despite this, I am still not sure and that is sad for me and sad for Paula Radcliffe. Sadly it is easier to believe that an extraordinary athletic achievement was done wi...

Re: Marine Corps Marathon Issues Lifetime Ban to Runner
I don't really think we disagree... I agree with everything you said there. Not sure how I've been totally misunderstood. :) Anyone who knows me how strongly I feel about the Boston Marathon both for qualifiers and charity runners. I have nothing against runners who earn their bib through raising m...

Re: Marine Corps Marathon Issues Lifetime Ban to Runner
Or the more general way to say it to them, Boston is not something that needs to be earned. It's wrong and it's cheating and stealing and lying. Actually I disagree. I do think it needs to be earned and I include the charity runners in this. They have to fundraise a ton of money for charity in orde...

Re: Marine Corps Marathon Issues Lifetime Ban to Runner
...it feels good to have met the standard. This! I never intend to go to Boston. But I have qualified twice and definitely told everyone I BQ'd. It was very fun; my ego loved it, dopamine rewards out the wazoo! This +1! Hard to imagine the desperate sort of person who would cheat their way to Bosto...

BTW I should mention that Pat from ran 3:12.29 at Philli yesterday and has now qualified for Boston with a 2:31 second cushion. I know the work he has put into this over the past several years and it is totally awesome that in 2017, he will get to run it. Way to go, Pat!! That's awesome. :) But I h...

Re: Marine Corps Marathon Issues Lifetime Ban to Runner
Taking the lie and then using it to get something other people want like getting into Boston seems to me to up the level of the lie. I don't really care if someone cut a corner, ran 355 instead of 420 and then went home. They have the medal, but they have to live with the lie. BTW I should mention t...

Re: IAAF corruption, bribery, "whole different scale" to FIF
(goes to Wikipedia) Today I learned Andorra is a country that exists. And the president of France is the prince of Andorra. I knew it was a country as I cycled through it! Toughest day of cycling I've ever had. I actually cried. The only things in Andorra are: gas stations (tax free), jewellery sto...

Re: Marine Corps Marathon Issues Lifetime Ban to Runner
At least the RD DQ'd him for 2014 and 2015 MCM, basically nullified his 2016 and 2017 BQ registration?? Wondering if Boston will ban him as well, considering he has admitted to cheating on his previous when he may have participated in Boston under false qualifications?? I doubt that Boston has to b...

Re: Marine Corps Marathon Issues Lifetime Ban to Runner
The Marine corp runner has offered an apology. Not sure I buy the "not trying to harm anyone" completely as he was using the time the past few years to go to Boston. I'd hold to the life time ban. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/marine-corps-marathon-bans-runner-who-appears-to-have-c...

Re: Marine Corps Marathon Issues Lifetime Ban to Runner
Not tough. Fair. Should be done more. In cases where the cheating is parlayed into a BQ or prizes, I am ok with this public shaming. See this different than accidental cheating or meaningless cheating (I am thinking here of the load of NY "marathoners" who don't make the right turn off the...

Re: Ottawa Race Weekend
Good analysis! I think the thing I struggle with is that as a late May marathon, if you get a hot day and have to slow down, you don't get a second shot that season. The marathon is such a "all your eggs in one basket" kind of event. For 2015, I agonised between Toronto/Missy three weeks ...

Re: Ottawa Race Weekend--warm is relative
Usually lots of discussion and debate of heat and Ottawa race weekend and there have certainly been some years hotter than others. Having run(mostly pacing) the marathon every year since 2005, here are my observations: 1) For me, not the heat on the day but the lack of time training in warmer that h...

Stuff happens. Like the apology. Perhaps they should have been charged marathon prices for the extra distance.

Impressive result for Deena. Love Rob. Brings character to the sport but the Olympic team may be out of his reach. Love to be proven wrong. Having blog from Rio would be funny and insightful.
