Re: And this is why I didn't volunteer for the Pan-Ams....
I am not convinced of anything. It would be good to have audits completed etc.. before finalizing the bonuses but on the face of it, the Games was a success in a number of ways. Good crowds, good Canadian performances, fun atmosphere, good infrastructure built, apartments being turned over for affor...

The longest journey starts with a single step Sorry to hear about your health challenges but glad your thinking is where it is. Great to move forward. The goals is awesome, you have been there before so you can judge and adjust based on your interim goals. Might want to think about a half marathon ...

Exactly.
I'd be creeped out if there was a clown just randomly walking down the street too!
I can't watch the US Republican debate for that reason.

Re: Women running and safety
The difference of opinion seems to be about the merits of carrying a weapon (even a tiny one) when running as a means of feeling safe. Not sure those differences are gender based, and does have that ring of the gun debate in the US and the slippery slope of escalation. I also worry that carrying kni...

Shame if running in malfunctioning Nike prototypes caused the winner to miss a WR. Weird seeing the insoles flying out the back of the shoes. (Two words to Nike shoe engineers: CRAZY GLUE)

Re: Women running and safety
I feel fortunate that I don't think about this often, but there are places (some of the Toronto ravines come to mind) where I would not run at dusk. It is sad to me that this is a consideration and has to be part of the conversation. We bought bear spray for my daughter...actually her grandpa bought...

Reid"s Berlin: PB but not Canadian Record
It was so close he could taste it. http://runningmagazine.ca/reid-coolsaet-runs-second-fastest-canadian-marathon-in-berlin/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Interesting Nike quality control promo in the article. I guess the shoe was meant only for half marathons. Wonder if the winner i...

I have run a lot of marathons but I can't even contemplate the Ironman without feeling exhausted. The work to get there is impressive, the effort on race day is extraordinary. Congrats on getting there and finishing. Wow!! Awesome.

Army Run Pacers: Andy best in 5k, Pat, Kiza awesome in half
Another great Army Run with perfect weather and Folkfest for warm up and cool down. Absolutely perfect. The Pacers had fun and as usual I like to let folks know how we performed ala the Auditor-General in a post race Pacer Report. I also had a couple of RMers helping me out (Andy, Pat and Kiza) with...

Sad story
Unfortunate story. I know my wife has bugged me about carrying ID when I run, perhaps this story is the nudge I need to actually do it. My thoughts are with the family of the runner. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-police-seek-help-to-identify-runner-who-collapsed-died-tuesday-1.3230070"...

But we like Clara Hughes, she is inspirational and she is Canadian. That is the difference. I tend to agree. We loved Silken Laumann, too. And Ben Johnson for 9.79 seconds. Love to hear an explanation of the silent acceptance of the silent sanction. Odd passive acceptance. So what we need is a hier...

Re: Not another one...?
My personal opinion is that if you are near the top of the world in any type of endurance or strength-related event you are cheating. That also goes for the top HR hitters in baseball. Near the top of the world or also near top in your country? Could be more widespread. Arguably as many in the mino...

Re: Chicago Marathon drops pacesetters
Pacing a woman can change some of these assumptions and I'd have to consider whether this would be fair for other women near the top of the race. BQs, PBs, and sub-3s are the sorts of individual goals that I can more easily justify than helping someone run specifically for placement. +1 The 'win&qu...

Re: Chicago Marathon drops pacesetters
So should Toronto Scotiabank (also a fast course) and Ottawa drop their elite pacers? Those races typically use pacers to shoot for "Canadian soil" records or to help elite Canadian runners reach various goals. I suspect that that's a bit cheaper than trying to find pacers for WR pace. If...

I love this quote - always thought it odd that we'd try suppress the body's natural response... Editor in Chief of The Physician and Sports Medicine Journal (Dr. Nick DiNubile) once posed this question: “Seriously, do you honestly believe that your body’s natural inflammatory response is a mistake?...

Re: Chicago Marathon drops pacesetters
I agree. It would make it more of a race and more about tactics. It will save money for races but it will also mean a number of strong runners who could make a living pacing elite marathons will not have that source of income. The pace groups for mortals were developed in part due to the success of ...

Re: Boston Dad may have some explaining to do to his son
I think it's sad that there's an entire site dedicated to catching marathon cheaters. Don't people have better things to do with their time, like maybe save children/animals from harm? It's not really a site- just one guy's blog. He's a bit obsessed, but hey- who am I to judge what someone else doe...

Re: Boston Dad may have some explaining to do to his son
While we're in agreement that it might not be prohibitively difficult to meet the LR challenge, I would still be surprised to see anything come of this on account of: (1) Rossi wanting to keep a low profile and avoid having another round of shame stories circulating. (2) Additional strings attached...
