Every day I say "that's the dumbest thing I've ever seen" and every day something dumber happens.
According to twitter, they're giving Froome back all the time he lost.

Re: Tour de France 2016
Every year I say "this is the year I'm going to watch the tour and ignore the sideshow". And then Froome punches a spectator, George Bennett runs over a guy, and the finish line attacks a bunch of riders, and I'm sucked back in. I saw the spectator get flattened, but I didn't see the othe...

I think I've put in about 200k on my mountain bike in the last 12 months, all of it on pavement or gravel.

Re: A "fun" question
That is if one runs a marathon they do not say they also ran a 5 K, a 10 K, a half marathon race but that they ran a marathon. Technically every marathon contains an infinite number of half marathons, all overlapping one another. You've run 8 marathons, one 50k, and an infinite number of half marat...

Re: A "fun" question
I think you've run 8 marathons and an ultra. The fact that the organizers didn't spring for a distinct belt buckle for the 50k doesn't make it into a marathon. And the fact that they put out a timing mat at 42.2 (as a convenience to the runners, really) doesn't make it into a marathon. If they had d...

It was good. 1:04 which was about as fast as I've been training lately. Its funny being 20 minutes off my PB and being happy but I have no right to complain. Perfect weather, good crowds.

... The obstacle for me in my older age is having to pay a registration fee, drive to the expo that is okay at best and pay for parking some blocks away to merely pick up the bib. Then do it again on Sunday, I cannot justify that for the shorter races and when there are "easier" alternati...

Calgary Marathon
Lost in the blazing ball of light and attention that is the Ottawa marathon, let's not forget that Canada's oldest marathon also goes this weekend. I'll be doing the 10k. Enough to get a cool medal, not enough to require me to actually do any training. Forecast is cool (high single digits) and dry. ...

Re: How Realistic is a Marathon Negative Split?
Similarly I know several people who set out at a pace that they think they can do, but it's pretty clear to those who have more experience that they start out too fast- and end up with a large positive split. I know way more people that do this than those who run smart marathons. They just have an ...

Re: How Realistic is a Marathon Negative Split?
Just for fun - I crunched the numbers (because I'm a geek that way). I had to throw out some people who didn't have split times or DNF'd, so I ended up with 1337 finishers. Of those, 60 negative split. Median finishing time for them was 3:45:13. The rest were positive splitters. Median finishing ti...

The more interesting question the writer is posing is: Empfield was also quoted by Lyall in the NYT article as saying that, “My readers think that doping is reprehensible, but that cutting the course is worse, almost incomprehensible…At least if you dope, you’re still trying to win the race by actu...

Even if you don't agree that millennials are wrecking everything we built, the stats are interesting.

Re: How Realistic is a Marathon Negative Split?
I thought we had this discussion a while ago that the "best" way was to have even splits (+/- a minute or so). Why is everyone so obsessed about the negative split? See my comment above. I think the "best" way is to run the fastest race, but I'm probably underthinking it. ETA: I...
