Re: Turn your road bike into a triathlon bike!
This article is the best I've seen on the subject as to where the savings are road vs TT: http://m.bikeradar.com/road/gear/article/how-aero-is-aero-19273/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; jono Very interesting. Looking at the outside data I was interested in the difference between &qu...

Re: Turn your road bike into a triathlon bike!
I'm not buying the tri bike is better arguement. There will be some aerodynamic advantage but I don't think it would be that big. I'd love to see some testing on this. But I agree with jamix's original assumption. If you move the seat forward and have the correct fit (ie distance from the pedals, re...

Re: How do you stick to your healthy eating habits?
That was the end of the binge, I've been good ever since. That was over a week ago. So far so good. They have frozen yogurt at your DQ?? We don't have that!! But when I think about it, that's probably a good thing...because I would likely do a lot of "at least it's yogurt!" justifications...

Re: How do you stick to your healthy eating habits?
Back on the wagon. Had a clean week last week, until Sunday. My oldest works at Dairy Queen. How cruel is that? It was dead so he texted me to bring the kids over for after supper ice cream. So we did. I tried and tried to resist, but how can you? At least I had the mini size blizzard with Reese's p...

Re: How do you stick to your healthy eating habits?
Oh I haven't really stopped. I've always allowed myself an occasional treat especially family occasions, but in extreme moderation. Since Goofy, it's gotten completely out of hand. I've allowed my mood to dictate my treat selection instead of good sense.

Re: How do you stick to your healthy eating habits?
Well, since Goofy I've been indulging in too many treats - a blizzard here, a cookie there, a Peanut Butter cup once too often - and too little running. I've put on nearly 10# (or more depending on which day you start the measuring and which day you end it) Leading up to Goofy my weight fluctuated b...

Re: Jwolf's North Shore Triathlon (Sprint)
The new bike was awesome. I'm still getting used to it on the downhills and the turns (see picture and discussion above), but overall I felt great. The course was similar difficulty to the one at UBC but it only took me about 10 minutes longer for 17.6k vs 11k. I know it's not going to be a super f...

When was the last time someone ask if they could get a picture with you?
You did great.

Re: Replacing training runs with crossfit?
The question's really whether you want to crossfit more than you want to PB your races? Answer that and you answer own question. not necessarily. There's definitely not an exact "if you crossfit more, you won't PB".....like you are implying, anyway. That's not what I implied - go read the...

Re: Replacing training runs with crossfit?
Not sure where to start. As Mark and Dgrant mentioned and as Greg Glassman himself admits, a specialist will always trump a generalist at his own game. It you want to be a great runner: run. Crossfit is about being a generalist. Good at everything but not necessarily great at anything. That being sa...

Wow. What a roller coaster ride. It's so easy for me to say focus on the good parts, but that's all I have. I really enjoyed reading how much fun you had in the second half (beer at the top of heart break? Brilliant!). Hope you feel better. It really sucks to have something you invested so much of y...

Re: Boston Marathon 2013
This made me feel a bit better: Boston. **** horrible. I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity." But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths. ...

Re: Re: Buying your performance on the bike!!
How about train? Frankly the whole idea of "buying speed" is a big turn-off for me in triathlon. If you're not gauging your performance and improvement based on your own internal factors, then what's the point? Like Mark, I don't see it that way either. Consider your first race and the bi...

Congratulations on a great weekend. Super report!! BTW - you must have been the Superman that I passed in the half-marathon. I was in the "D" corral and finished in just under 2:11 time. I passed a Superman about mile 9 or 10. Sorry that I didn't recognize you or Irongirl. Mea culpa. I wo...

Re: Proper form for Squats
Toes forced out is usually a sign of tight aductors, a problem of mine I need to address. Sadly not the most pressing problem on the list, so it'll have to wait. So long as you knee is tracking over your toe, you're good. Otherwise you risk you knees and aches collapsing inwards which isn't so good....

Re: Chia Seeds
I usually eat it as a pudding. Don't have an exact recipe, but about 1/4 cup of seeds with 1/2 - 3/4 of milk (cow, almond, coconut, whatever) let sit, I add a dollop of maple syrup, or a mashed banana. Dark chocolate chips if that tickles your fancy or raisins. Yummy!
