Re: 100 miles -- OrleansRunner's report

Incredible, simply incredible Sylvie. I was telling your story to everyone I have chatted with all weekend. 160kms...mind boggling. You must be so mentally and physically strong to accomplish this, I can't even begin to imagine.

Congratulations.

Re: Race day Sunday

Great day for me too. I've paced a couple of 1/2s before, but this was my first time pacing a full marathon. I felt a bit more pressure as I didn't want to let anyone down who was going for a BQ. It went great- had a big group of people who were with me up until about 38K, then some started to take...

Re: 2013 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend

Just got back from the expo. Usual stuff was on show. A few people were getting confused, so to save you the run-around. You get your bib first (on the ground floor), check it with the chip reader and then head on up the escalators to the top floor to get your t-shirt and enter the expo. Women's t-s...

Re: 2013 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend

Sunday forecast is back at 18 C and sunny. Packing this afternoon and taking everything from long sleeves to a tank top...! Curious to see the marathon shirts. I only really check weather forecasts at this time of the year and each year I realise why. So far we have had: 90% rain and warm cold and ...

Re: 2013 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend

Has anybody picked up their race kit yet? Just wondering what the tech shirts are like this year for each distance... The men's marathon shirt I saw posted on FB (by run26.2) was navy with some orange in the logo and on the side. Looks really sharp. That sounds great. Last year's half shirt was awf...

Re: 2013 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend

Does anyone know how the corrals are assigned? Blue and Orange start at 9AM. How do I find out which corral I'm in? Or will I not know until I pick up my bib? When you registered it would have asked you for a expected finish time. Did you put 1:30-2? (I see you are looking to go sub 1:58). If so th...

Wow, what a great race. You acquitted yourself really well and still found areas you want to improve on. You will get faster and faster at these as time goes on, especially in the transition. Congrats!

But other than LD (which is non-existant in MB so maybe I'm a bit biased), I've never understood why people freak out about ticks. They can carry a whole host of microbes that can cause amongst other things encephalitis (e.g. Powassan virus). http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/id-mi/tickinfo-eng.php" oncli...

Re: A blogger's Hanson experience

I used Daniels the first time (3:55:xx) and am using Bruce Deacon this time. Deacon has far fewer very long runs (32km), but mostly longish runs (20-26km) at specific paces like race pace or sections of faster pace. He has tempos and a few other speed workouts and quite a few easy short runs. I am p...

Re: A blogger's Hanson experience

Interesting read. She seems pleased with her 16 minute PB, but stated that she "walked most of the last 10 miles" in her first marathon and ran the entirety of her PB marathon, so perhaps she just paced herself better and better pacing comes from more experience. I am not trying to debunk ...

Intresting, I thought to some point that being a heel striker caused me most of my injuries. And it's a very hard thing to change. Maybe worth it to take more notice on my form then! Well that is when I can run again .... ! Get the book Chi Running, skip the first 4 or 5 chapters of mumbo-jumbo and...

Re: Vancouver Sun Run competitors stripped of their medals

I can see both sides of the argument here. It's cheating, reporting them puts a stop to that, but a global naming and shaming takes it just a stretch too far. Reminds me of Blackadder. Blackadder: "Perhaps Lord Melchet would like me whipped through the streets of Aberdeen?" Melchet: "...

Re: Vancouver Sun Run competitors stripped of their medals

Looking at the video, it is pretty clear, there is no way she could have run sub-42 at that pace. I guess with that many runners she could amble across the finish line and not look too conspicuous. Apparently she's been doing for years. Why? Surely her friends know she can't run at at 4:00/km clip f...

mas_runner's Minto Run for Reach

This was my 4th Minto Run for Reach Half Marathon and my 12th half marathon in all. I like to think of the Minto as "the PB race" as I have set a new half marathon personal best each time I have run this race. This was my first race of the 2013 after missing (DNS) Winterman Half Marathon a...
