Re: 1 hour, 12 minutes and 40 seconds
You obviously experienced muscle fatigue. If its the trashed feeling you get in your legs from an overly hard bike which HCcD mentioned, then nutrition can't help. Didn't you cycle 33 + km /h (it was a 20 km yes?). On top of which, you know you've been having trouble with your longer distance runni...

Re: 1 hour, 12 minutes and 40 seconds
Well done man  . 35-36 / 20 km is darn fast and man it makes me feel slow . With regards to the run, you can't really blame lack of electrolytes or nutrition in a Sprint triathlon. I think you can to a certain extent. I think it would've gone a lot better, it felt like I instantly just ...

First thing to say, I hate wetsuits. 750m Swim: 11:41 1:34 per 100m T1 + 20km bike + T2: 38:16 (35:high for just the bike) 5km Run: 22:47 4:34 per km 17th overall, 2nd U19 overall time: 1:12:40 Saturday: I arrived in Leamington and went for a short 1km wetsuit swim at the beach, and then a 14 minute...

Re: Kitzbuhel ITU world cup
Didn't Macca do an IronMan recently. Whitfield also dropped out. I wonder what his story was. He appeared to have a fast swim of 17:37 I think. ............................................................................................... Once again the cycling was under 40 km / h. I wonder if thi...

I am buoyed by your success. Congratulations on the win. Would have been an awesome feeling. Strange them moving the marker during the race. What's next? Thanks everyone! It moved from the wind I guess. And they tried to move it back during the race.. which meant the people behind me swam a lot les...

I had a awesome race today. My coach came down to watch me so that was pretty awesome. Stats: 300m swim: 8:21 2nd overall (actually 500m: 1:34 per 100m avg out of water, 1:40 with run up to T1, no wetsuit) T1: 43 10km bike: 20:52 2nd overall T2: 44 2km run: 8:06 5th overall Place: 1st overall, 1st i...

Not really, sometimes the guys are working, and sometimes there just sitting, saving there legs for the run. Remember, at this level, there competing for money and place instead of time.jamix wrote:Tight race. Cycling times were kinda slow for a draft legal race.

Re: Caledon Draft Legal Triathlon
No swim, so just bike+run? Are there any pre-requisites to entering a draft-legal race? Do you have to demonstrate that you are capable of riding in a pack safely? Congrats on the podium finish! Thanks! And you just need to pass a drafting clinic as junior, which I did. But to race U23 and elite yo...

Caledon Draft Legal Triathlon
I headed up to Caledon after my swim meet Saturday to race the next day to race the 14-15/16-19 Draft legal triathlon. Draft legal and normal triathlon races are waaaay different. Different pacing, small lapped races, it's hard. I got to the race site a bit before 7 and I met up with my friend from ...

Re: High volume E-pace running: A skeptics experience
Well week 4 this week totaled 73 km . I certainly "felt" this week more than the others and I've have some soreness in my ankles/feet and lower calves. The pace seems to vary on some of these runs too (particularly the longer ones) with the upper end speed being a little to fast fo...

Re: High volume E-pace running: A skeptics experience
I'm a triathlete, I can't help that I can't run 100k a week. I used to run on average 60km a week, with a couple 70k weeks. That was back in 2009 though. I wasn't blaming you. Your running mileage is understandable given your other priorities, however it is gonna set you back (for running) regardle...

Oh yeah, I may have posted this before but here it is again. A cool spreadsheet based on Daniels formulas. Very editable. You can even change weight and weather to see predicted time adjustments. I could only open it in readable format, but it looks interesting. Have you ever played around with the...

Re: High volume E-pace running: A skeptics experience
For one, while this newer regime is more popular and even believed to be more effective than the "lower mileage / higher intensity" regime, it has never actually been proven in a scientific setting. It is largely still just a belief. Buh... I'm pretty darn sure Dr. Daniels put a ton of re...

How'd I know you two number crunchers would reply! I know they're not representative of anything real, they were in the cut and paste I used so I left them. I have some runs logging me at 1:xx/km! My main point was simply that following the format Jamix is using, for more than a few weeks, wi...

Re: London Marathon
Are we ever going to see a 1:50 Marathon? Not before someone runs a HM in sub 55 minutes first, which will probably never happen. They said the same about the 100m sprint a few yrs back, sub 10mins is all very common now. Also most elites don't do halves Yeah they do... Lets just worry about if the...

Re: Flip turns?
...You won't lose 20 percent of fitness gains if you flip off wall. Did I say that? I said that you lose 20% of your swimming by gliding 5m from a push off so, for sure, a swimmer will not gain as much as if they swim 25m compared to 20m on every lap. It will make you faster in the pool though, and...

Re: Flip turns?
Is there any reason to work on this skill while swimming? I am guessing that during a triathlon you don't need to ever kick off a wall; I was thinking maybe doing flip turns makes your workout harder in the pool, as you don't get that brief rest and extra breath you might get otherwise. Any advice ...

From my expierience you don't need to rest from shinsplints. And you shoudn't be slapping your feet while running. It should be a soft impact.

Incase anyone was wondering where Lance would come out of the water in a 2.4 mile swim, I don't think a 50 minute swim split would be out of the question given his results this weekend... http://triathlon.competitor.com/2011/04/news/lance-armstrong-races-in-2-4-mile-open-water-swim_25313" onclick="...
