Re: Triathlon Tuesday...

I watched the tri coverage this morning and probably will again this evening, so I ran on the treadmill at lunch. 10 minute warmup 2 x (5min @ 5% incline with 2 minutes active rest) 6 min @ 5% incline At my gym, the treadmills with the TVs are beside large street level windows. Normally I don't run ...

Re: Olympic marathon Sunday!

My original plan was to do my weekend long run tonight, but since the forecast for tomorrow night looks better (somewhat cooler temps, and rain supposed to end by the afternoon), that's the new plan. The sound of pouring rain at 5am didn't inspire me to go out. I see a forecast low of 16C. that wil...

Re: Muggy Saturday

Where is everyone? Just in from a horribly muggy long run. Had planned for 14K and only managed 9K. :( It was really brutal out there. I had to give up somewhere in Rosedale and as I tried to figure out the quickest way home, I actually felt lost. It's Toronto, I'm never lost! I don't want to skip ...

Re: August goals

I should hit around 400 km for August as I continue to ramp up for October.... My plan is to stick to the plan (for the most part). My training schedule calls for around 330K this month, but with a week of camping in the Adirondacks in the middle of that, there may be some trail runs of significant...

Re: STWM Course change!

It looks like a U turn on Queen Street--just earlier than before, avoiding the slope at the end of Queen sT. No jog into the neighbourhood. In previous years, Found the turnaround quite tight with lots of runners taking any momentum and cadence you have out of the race for a moment. Don't anticipat...

Re: Beer Mile going mainstream?

I am also willing to host a beer mile with the start / finish line on my property. I have close to a 400 meter loop we can run around my house (on the streets, but as long as the beer is on my property we should keep this person happy. They may feel we are stupid .... but a chance I am willing to t...

Re: Iroquoia Trail Test - August 18

I'm strongly considering 32k. I was vaguely considering 50k, but after last weekend have decided to be realistic. Yes - register for the 32 km! It will be fun!!! :) I will keep you up to date, but I'd say it's pretty likely I'll be there. I do hope to be there doing the 15. It is a tough course in ...

...so I guess I'm running home, too. Oh look - a double. 7.5k each way. And in running clothes you already wore on a warm humid morning! Oh joy! I took pity on the world and rinsed them out in the sink with some soap once I realized what I would have to do. I still wouldn't have wanted to be really...

Re: How to be the best support person

The best support person I've been supported by had a hot cup of coffee waiting for me at the finish line. And cold beer later.

Sometimes I like to just go straight to the cold beer, too.

Maybe a card game or scrabble as a distraction beforehand?

Re: McMillan - "The Calculator is evolving"

Hmm. I plugged in a possible but aggressive goal for the marathon along with my time from last November and current mileage. The recommended long run pace ranges are actually slower than what I would have seen before, but correspond to how I actually train . If I plug in my shorter race times, I sti...

Re: Question re trail racing etiquette

Keep going forward. The faster runner will call out that they are passing (usually on the left), so just stay to the right side if you can. I expect there will be a certain amount of passing with the staggered starts as the faster runners for the shorter distances catch up to the back of the pack, b...
