Anybody else? (Toronto Marathon)
Anybody else? (Toronto Marathon)
I was thinking about doing the Toronto Marathon, Oct 15. I saw from the pdf page Holly so generously created that 3 maniacs are listed as running it....Anybody else thinking about jumping in?
The website claims it is one of the best Half-Marathons around....any veterans want to comment on this??

I am thinking about it.....My military Ironman is off the goal list (high potential for injury, don't want to lose my job!) but I stink at training without a goal.

I'm thinking about doing it, but I'm not sure yet. The half marathon is a great course for the first 14K or so -- straight down Yonge Street and down Rosedale Valley Road and Bayview; then you're in the portlands and under the Gardiner Expressway for 3K, then the it-doesn't-look-like-a-hill-but-it's-a-looooong-incline up University to College, and the frustrating final loop around Queen's Park Circle.
I think it's a nice run. I did it two years ago as my first half ever and did the 'death march' up University Avenue, so I'd like to do it again and acquit myself a little better this time. I prefer this course over the very-popular Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Half.
Just my $0.02

I may be running the T-Dot 1/2 ... and, yes, from my experience last year on the course, running the Full, the 1/2 mary course is relatively fast, assuming you like running downhill for the first part of the race...
Again, everything depends on my recovery from this weekend's festivities .....

I'll be running the half. I've run it three times before.
I like the variety on the course. Of course much of it follows routes I have spent a lot of time running. I used to live very close to the 11k mark of the half/31k mark of the full. In fact, I could lie in my bed and see the marathoners running along Belmont.

The road to hell is paved. Run trails.
The Toronto International Half was my first half ever, and that was last year. I really, really enjoyed the course, I found the crowd support to be decent, and I thought it was really well-organized. Everybody above has already outlined details about the course, etc. Just wanted to say that I enjoyed this half.
I will be running the half in this race this year. Was planning on running the full but won't now, which is too bad. I would like to run the full for this race in the future!

I have to get better at knowing who's where (like looking at the race schedule document, for instance). So Jo-Jo, if I'm not actually running the half, I'll be d*mn sure to be there cheering for your first full. You'll rock the house, I'm sure.

Likely with friends of ours...I don't know how to describe where they live, except that it's near the GIANT lavalife tower. Seriously, skyscraper, with a huge logo on it...if anyone can help me out

I've done the full there twice...in 2002 and 2004......horrible weather in 2004 with tons and tons of hard cold rain and lots and lots of wind...it was a great test!
Overall I found the race to be well organized....lots of support along the way (except through the industrial park) and good finish line support at Queen's park....plus, you run right by the ACC, home of my beloved Maple Leafs!

I'm running the half as well. Was originally planning on the full but too many short tri's this summer and didn't get my long runs in so I will be running the half. Looking forward to it. First time for me for this race.

I did that wonderful wet cold windy 2004 Full too as my first, and did the relay 3 times before that, I love the route, the fans are pretty much all along most of the route, it was well organized. The only thing that bothered me was all the impatient drivers, but the police did a good job of keepping them at bay.
I reccommend it, I'll do it again some day.

Yep, ditto what they said. The 2004 T.O. Full was my first in 23 years. Windy, wet, cold and wonderful...
Me at the finish:
