Who's not a runner here?

Postby Madame Bourette » Sun Sep 21, 2008 7:11 pm

There are some people here who never talk about running and never seem to be racing. And not because of injury...

So, who's not a runner here?

Eric, not all runners race.

And we DO have a walking forum here, remember?

And others might run, but not want to talk about it, though they like the community here and get inspiration/advice from reading.

I don't think we need to discuss this... especially in the GRD.

Okay, who doesn't jog, run, walk or race?

Why shouldn't we discuss this? Is it taboo?

Why are you asking this? Why are you trying to single people out? Make them feel unwelcome? Give us a good reason to discuss it, a way in which it will be a helpful discussion or in which it will add to the community here.

I concur with Bruyere..not all runners "race". Lots of folks run simply for health/ fitness or the joy of running. The competing part is not needed by all.

I know that, I said who's is not a runner. I didn't say who's not a racer.

By curiosity, to know why they joined us if they don't run or why they stick here if they used to run but don't anymore. Not that there is something wrong with that.

As for me, I joined in the Running Room era. Then, I became a triathlete. We have a good section here for triathlon. The Slowtwitch forum is better for the quality and quantity of posts but it's overcrowded and less friendly. I like the people here and mostly lurk on Slowtwitch.

About 70km southwest of Ottawa. Between Ottawa and Brockville..does that help?

Okay, I'll bite, Eric.

I run (sporadically at best)...sorta...more of a jog or shuffle in relation to you though.

I race in the spring, plan races for the fall that I never register for or make it out to, and only train my right arm to raise a wine glass during the summer months.

I keep coming back here...for the same reasons you do....the people and the "friendships" (virtual and otherwise) that I have formed here over the last three years.

I think you'll find that would be a common denominator for most people here....despite the whole "running theme".

Troll Eric-
There are some people on this site who rarely run, but started in the community because of running in some way. They stayed because Runningmania offers more than just a running community.

If you don't like it, try a hardcore running board like Letsrun.com where they deride anyone who runs slower than 7:00/mile. There's some good stuff about elite running there sometimes, but very little about training, imo. I like it here better. :)

Perhaps there are some people who do run, but don't post about it. They like to post about other things so they can have a discussion with their friends (this is a very friendly place). They just happen to have running as a common shared interest.

That is why there is drifferent boards. In fact, your begining this thread, has nothing to do about running at all. It is just a topic about people posting. I fail to understand why you posted on the GRD board. It certainly is NRR material.

Perhaps you should start a thread on why people post in the wrong sections? It is on purpose, for seemingly more exposure in GRD or it is simply not knowing which board to post in?

I think it would prove to be interesting stuff!

At least two people told me it's a valid question and Kara didn't seem to be offended...

There is nothing offending in this thread and the non-runner won't expose themselves if they don't want. There is no need to be that much on defence mode.

As for which forum this belong, I believe it's running related. Do you talk about movie the daily thread when the first poster doesn't talk about running?

After all that I have been through, I still don't consider myself a runner. Just don't have that mindset where I can say that running is my thing, my chosen sport... far from it. It just so happens that I am forced to run in the sports I participate in & thus by default, I have to run.
Since I am forced into it, might as well see how I stand (vs anyone else) in pure running.

I do not play hockey (anymore) but i talk about it and thoroughly enjoy watching it.

I do not run in the summer heat, i bike or walk but i still post here in the summer

I do not like green eggs and ham but have nothing against either chickens or pigs.

I do not feed trolls but i do enjoy their antics.
