Attn Halifax Runners! HOME GROWN 10k RACE - November 30!!!!

Postby RA. » Tue Nov 25, 2008 8:40 am

So, as some of you know, I've been teaching the 10k Clinic at the RR this fall. Since we are out of 10k races in Halifax for my group to work towards, we decided to put together a "fun run" fundraiser run to finish the clinic on the right foot.

I got to pick the charity, and I chose Barry House. Barry House is a shelter for women and youth that "provided shelter and integral services to 397 Women, 128 Youth (16-24) and 61 Children (those under 16, accessing the shelter with their Mothers)" in fiscal 2007-2008. In May of 2008, the building suffered extensive damage in a fire. They have been relocated temporarily, but are aiming to have the old location on Gottingen Street back up and running in Spring of 2009.

The entry fee for the race this weekend is a donation to Barry House. They need:

*Women's and Children's new/gently used clothing (all sizes)
*New items for our Silent Auction Fundraising Event
*Gifts-in-kind
*New/gently used toys
*Personal care items (soap, body wash, razors, shaving cream, deodorant, sunscreen, moisturizing lotion, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, sanitary/feminine products, hair care supplies, Depends/Tena adult undergarments)
*Women's undergarments and socks (all sizes)
*Zippered vinyl bedliners (single)
*Vinyl pillow covers
*Footwear
*Laundry Detergent and dryer softner sheets
*Children's Products- all ages (diapers/wipes, bottles, sippy cups, colouring books, crayons, plates/cutlery etc.)
*Bath/beach towels, facecloths, kitchen/tea towels, sponges
*DVD or VHS Movies
*Pet food and supplies (leashes, kennels, blankets, litter/boxes, dishes etc)

So, if you feel like running 10k this Sunday, please come out to Run Club at the Spring Garden Road Running Room, and bring a donation (item above, or cash) of your choice and support a good cause.

I hope to see a few of you out there!

Angela

I should add that it is a FUN RUN, so the roads will NOT be closed to traffic, etc.

Open course? That could make it really fun! Will have to consult the family on schedules for Sunday, but hope to be able to make it.

Everyone looked like they had fun.

Congrats to you and your clinic!
Bettina Peterson: "Where're you headed?"
Chuck Noland: "Well, I was just about to figure that out."
