5.5k done at lunch today. I was a wee bit over-dressed for +4.
Take care everyone!

Gorgeous outside. Slushy but well worth it. Schedule called for 5k recovery run, but seeing I cut yesterdays short, and the weather is perfect, stretched it out to 8.5k.

Good day. I've been running but not posting and reached a milestone on Saturday :) 21.6 km in total, the first 12 on the TM followed by the remainder on the indoor track. No 10s and 1s, just a couple of walk/water breaks and the transition from TM to track, and no IT band strap. And no issues afterwards. What a great feeling!

Treadmill hill workout this morning, with slightly harder hills than last week (highest was 4.5%). Baby steps. If I end up having to do some walking at ATB and Boston because I was too cautious on the hill training, so be it. Beats getting re-injured by about a milion miles!

BJH - scary stuff about the fire :(

Hope everyone has a Better than Mundane Monday. The sun is shining here in the GTA and it's 0 C. That means some snow is melting :)

Took advantage of a new childminding service at the Ymca. Pascal was breaking his heart, but he settled down eventually. Felt really good to disconnect for two hours and get in a good workout. So far so good for a Monday.

Not so mundane Monday for me. There was another fire in my neighbourhood last night. There has been an arsonist setting fires in the general area for the past 18 months. The fires are getting more frequent and the last two were very, very close to my home.

I can't believe they haven't caught this person yet.

Well, he's only been charged with the two most recent fires. I'm hoping this isn't just some kind of scapegoat

No run today, just up at 5am to get in a strength workout. Jari Love's Get Ripped! Not bad. I like that it's really just about the weights, no added cardio. Also feels more like a class than just me on my own, which is sooooo boring there aren't even words. I don't think I'll be sore tomorrow though (is that good or bad ).

could be that it is just too early in the investigation to put together the evidence that he may have been involved in all of them.

No running for me today...rest day. I had lab work done on me this morning (took a few vials of blood), followed by donating blood at lunch. So far I haven't passed out! :D

Rest day and maniac dinner for me today!

I had planned to get to the gym for a strength workout but since my meeting that normally ends at 1:30pm JUST finished (it's 3pm here) and I need to get downtown for dinner it won't be happening! Not that I'm all that disappointed...the rest day is needed:)

Finally did something other than work today...
I walked to work. It was grand.

5k whether I walked or ran, it was 5 km.
I used to run. All the time.
Now? Notsomuch.
I'm still a runner, though.

13K recovery run, legs felt better than expected and the ice wasn't too much of a nuisance.

I am still not sure exactly what was a tempo run but this was my tempo run tonight.

7km tempo run
1 7:21 p/km ( ran 1st km with mom for warmup)
2 5:09 p/km
3 4:49 p/km
4 4:27 p/km
5 4:48 p/km
6 5:04 p/km
7 5:19 p/km
7km in 37:00

This run was very easy, if I did this tempo run right :S.

35 minute spin this morning before work.

Tonight, my first time back to the pool since my half ironman, 6 months ago. Just jumped in the water and swam (slowly), did 1000m continuous. I didn't think I'd be able to do that much.

Good idea to warm up and to err on the side of caution. A tempo run is just quick enough that you have to work a bit but just slow enough that you could keep it up for more than half an hour if you really had to. If you have good running conditions, I would estimate that a good tempo pace for you might be in the 4:20 to 4:40 per km range. These runs will really help you stay strong at ATB.

So the fastest kilometer is a little bit slower than race pace, my hoping race pace is about 4:10 p/km

Easy run to get the blood flowing. 4K at 5:18 pace, 1K at 5:00 pace. My teeth still hurt but I did get some antibiotics in case it is infected. Maybe I should try some dark rum as well....

One or the other might be best!

Hope you're feeling better soon Nick. Sounded painful to start with, can't believe it's still giving you this much grief!
